        در این مقاله، معادله ی کوپر اشمیت را به روش هم محلی با پایه های ژاکوپی و ایرفویل، حل می کنیم. این معادله PDE یکی از معادلات مهم و پرکاربرد در فیزیک و شیمی است. این معادله غیرخطی درمهندسی مکانیک به صورت پدیده موج ظاهر شده، و در فیزیک پلاسما درباره سیستم‌هایی بحث می‌کند که از ذرّات باردار مثبت و منفی تشکیل شده‌اند و می‌توانند آزادانه حرکت کنند. مقایسه سطح تولیدات گرم الکترون و سطح آن باعث انتشار هارمونیک برخی از نشانه های منشاء می شود والکترون های گرما در پلاسما، به صورت کروی تابش می شوند [1]. معادله کوپر- اشمیت نقش مهمی در پراکندگی غیر خطی موج ایفا می کند. امواج انفرادی در پراکندگی غیر خطی رسانه ها پخش می شوند. این امواج یک فرم پایدار را حفظ می کنند. به دلیل تعادل پویا وغیر خطی بودن این معادله راه حل تقریبی در بسیاری از مقالات ارائه شده است [12و13].در این مقاله با پیاده سازی روش های عددی روی معادله مورد نظر، دستگاههای غیر خطی حاصل می شود که می توان آنها را با روش های حل دستگاههای غیرخطی، مثل روش تکراری نیوتن حل کرد. وجود، یکتایی جواب و همگرایی روشها مورد بررسی قرار می گیرد و در مثالی نشان خواهیم داد که با تکرار کم به معیار توقف |u_(n+1)-u_n |/|u_n | پرونده مقاله

        در این مقاله، دو مدل برای تحلیل عددی جواب معادلات دیفرانسیل-انتگرال کسری ارائه می دهیم و سپس به مقایسه نتایج بکارگیری آنها بر روی مسائل متنوع می پردازیم. برای این منظور ابتدا ماتریس‌های عملیاتی چند جمله‌ای‌های ژاکوبی را بیان کرده و سپس هر مسئله را با دو روش حل می‌نماییم چکیده کامل
        در این مقاله، دو مدل برای تحلیل عددی جواب معادلات دیفرانسیل-انتگرال کسری ارائه می دهیم و سپس به مقایسه نتایج بکارگیری آنها بر روی مسائل متنوع می پردازیم. برای این منظور ابتدا ماتریس‌های عملیاتی چند جمله‌ای‌های ژاکوبی را بیان کرده و سپس هر مسئله را با دو روش حل می‌نماییم: روش ماتریس عملیاتی مشتق مرتبه کسری کاپوتو و روش ماتریس عملیاتی انتگرال مرتبه کسری ریمان-لیوویل. در هر دو روش با استفاده از تکنیک نقطه گذاری به یک دستگاه معادلات جبری خطی یا غیرخطی خواهیم رسید با کمک روش تکراری نیوتن حل می شوند. روش‌های ارائه شده روی چند مثال پیاده سازی شده است و نتایج عددی حاصل بیانگر کارایی بالای هر دو روش است. لازم به ذکر است که تمامی محاسبات با کمک نرم افزار متمتیکا انجام شده است. نتایج عددی نشان می‌دهد که برای معادله دیفرانسیلی که جواب آن بصورت چند جمله ای می باشد بهتر است از روش اول و در معادله غیر خطی که جواب آن بصورت تابع متعالی است بهتر است که روش دوم استفاده شود. پرونده مقاله

        در این مقاله، روش هم‌محلی جدیدی، بر مبنای چندجمله‌ای‌های بوبکر، برای جواب‌های تقریبی رده‌ای از معادلات انتگرال دو بعدی فردهلم خطی نوع دوم معرفی کرده‌ایم. خصوصیات توابع بوبکر دوبعدی بکار گرفته شده است. ماتریس اساسی انتگرال‌گیری به وسیله‌ی نقاط هم‌محلی برای کاهش فرم جواب معادله‌ی انتگرالی به فرم جوابی از دستگاه معادلات جبری مورد استفاده قرار گرفته است. دقت جواب و تحلیل خطا به طور کاملاً دقیق و ساختاری مورد مطالعه قرار گرفته شده و تاکید شده است که روش پیشنهادی برای انواع معادلات انتگرال دو بعدی فردهلم خطی با هسته‌ی پیوسته از نوع چندجمله‌ای کاملاً دقیق و بدون خطا می‌باشد. از طرف دیگر، کمک گرفتن از نرم‌افزار ریاضی مِیپل باعث شده جوابِ ضرایب چند جمله ای بوبکر بسیار آسان محاسبه شود. همچنین، نتایج روش حاضر را با نتایج سایر روش‌های موجود به جهت ارائه اعتبار، دقت و کارایی تکنیک مورد بررسی و مقایسه قرار داده‌ایم. پرونده مقاله

        محاسبه انرژی­های معادله شرودینگر در فیزیک از اهمیت ویژه­ای برخوردار است. به عنوان مثال در محاسبه میزان جذب نور و میزان شکست نور در یک ماده، محاسبه انرژی­های گذار بین زیرنواری و انرژی­های گذار بین نواری، از ترازهای انرژی استفاده می­کنیم. همچنین، به کمک ترازهای­های انرژی می­توان چگالی حالات یک سیستم فیزیکی را یافت و از روی آن به دلیل عایق، نیم رسانا و یا فلز بودن یک ماده پی­برد. روش­های زیادی در خصوص محاسبه ترازهای انرژی وجود دارد که هرکدام از نقاط ضعف و قدرتی برخوردارند. روش­های تکرار مجانبی، الگوریتم ژنتیک، نومروف، شبکه های عصبی، ماتریس انتقال و ... تعدادی از آنها می­باشند. محاسبه ترازهای انرژی به کمک توابع سینک، کمتر مورد توجه دانشمندان این حوزه بوده است. در این مقاله، کارایی روش هم محلی سینک در محاسبه این انرژی­ها را بررسی کرده­ایم. برای حل این مسائل، با استفاده از تقریب تابع مجهول به وسیله توابع سینک و به کمک روش هم محلی، مسئله را به یک مساله ویژه مقداری تبدیل می­کنیم. در ادامه با بیان مثال­هایی، دقت و سرعت این روش را با روش تفاضلات متناهی، که روشی رایج در بین فیزیکدانان است، مقایسه کرده­ایم. درنهایت، با توجه به جداول و محاسبات انجام شده، دقت و سرعت این روش در مقایسه با برخی از روش­ها، ثابت کرده­ایم. تمامی محاسبات با نرم افزار میپل صورت گرفته است. پرونده مقاله

        The present article investigates the collocation of verb and noun in Persian language by reviewing different approaches to investigate collocation, from the cognitive viewpoint. On this basis, theories of Cowie (1998) and Howarth (1996) is the theoretical framework of the present research. The present research has been conducted based on data of standard Persian language (writing) and its data were selected from corpora of Intelligent Signal Processing Research Center and Dehkhoda Dictionary. The cognitive study of the data is based on the collocation of the word "zadan". For example, for the cognitive analysis of the collocation of "del be darya zadan", different readings of the words " del be darya " and "zadan" and their combination in two sensor motor and non sensor motor domains have been investigated. It is generally concluded from the present research that in Persian language, it is possible to study the motivation of the speakers to use collocation of the words with cognitive tools such as form, schema, and prominence, and give a new classification of this linguistic phenomenon. On this basis, one can propose the classification of free and open collocation based on the degree of prominence and schema. The frequency of collocation can also be predicted based on these two cognitive criteria. By using the Dickson-based collocation method and using Chebyshev's spatial points, we transform the system of deficit differential equations into a system of algebraic equations. In this way, an approximate solution can be found for the proposed model. By introducing the error functions for the expressed fractional model, the accuracy and convergence of the obtained solutions are investigated.         ‎‎In this paper, Solvability nonlinear Volterra integral equations with general vanishing delays is stated. So far sinc methods for approximating the solutions of Volterra integral equations have received considerable attention mainly due to their high accuracy. These approximations converge rapidly to the exact solutions as number sinc points increases. Here the numerical solution of nonlinear delay Volterra integral equations is considered by two methods. The methods are developed by means of the sinc approximation with the single exponential (SE) and double exponential (DE) transformations. These numerical methods combine a sinc collocation method with the Newton iterative process that involves solving a nonlinear system of equations. The existence and uniqueness of numerical solutions for these equations are provided. Also an error analysis for the methods is given. So far approximate solutions with polynomial convergence have been reported for this equation. These methods improve conventional results and achieve exponential convergence. Numerical results are included to confirm the efficiency and accuracy of the ‎methods.‎ پرونده مقاله

        15 - The Contributions of Input Enhancement of Collocations to the Reading Comprehension Performance of Iranian Field-Dependent and Field-Independent Learners

        The present study aimed at examining the possible impact of input enhancement of collocations on the reading comprehension among Iranian Field-Dependent (FD) and Field-Independent (FI) students. Firstly, 120 intermediate female EFL learners took a Nelson proficiency test and the results were used to select 90 students who were given Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT) to distinguish the FD learners from the FI ones. Ultimately, 28 FD and 28 FI learners were left. These learners were classified into four groups, two of which consisted of 14 FD, and the other two comprised 14 FI learners. One FD and one FI group served as the experimental groups while the other two were control groups. A reading pretest was given to all groups and the researchers incorporated techniques of input enhancement of collocations in the texts covered in the experimental groups. In control groups, the same materials with no enhancement were administered. Having finished the eight treatment sessions, the researchers gave all four groups the reading comprehension posttest whose results were used to examine the research questions. Since the two independent variables of the current study were categorical, and the dependent variable and covariate were continuous, ANCOVA was employed to do the data analysis. Based on the statistical analysis outcome, input enhancement of collocations had a significant impact on the reading comprehension performance of Iranian field-dependent learners. Yet, it had no significant effect on the Iranian FI learners’ reading comprehension performance. Finally, the findings showed that input enhancement of collocations had a significant effect on the reading comprehension performance of Iranian FD and FI EFL learners differently; that is, FD learners outperformed the FI ones. The findings of the study imply that teacher training courses should include some training on input enhancement techniques and cognitive styles so that teachers’ awareness regarding input enhancement andtheir cognitive styles were raised. پرونده مقاله

        The ability to express thoughts and emotions appropriately on different social occasions is considered an essential prerequisite to maintaining social relationships. This study sought to investigate the most frequent words and expressions pertaining to 'Condolence' and 'Sympathy' and also which words and expressions co-occurred with such expressions in spoken American English discourse in the different contexts to know how and when to use grief-related expressions. To this end, the data was collected from the spoken Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA). The findings revealed that the word 'Sympathy' occurred mostly in the equal social status and socio-cultural context whereas the word ' Grief ' was observed in the equal social status and transactional context in the same corpus. The study showed that the collocational words did not influence the function of such words and they were substituted based on the intended meaning of the speakers. The teachers and the learners will get insights into the more frequent collocations as well as the likely appropriate ways to apply them in the authentic context. The findings could be beneficial for four groups: First, the researcher can use the findings as a resource for cross-cultural comparison of condolences. Second, the EFL learners might get familiar with the expressions of condolences in the native forms. Besides, teachers may benefit from the results to instruct the learners on how to use condolence expressions properly.         Technology has crept into every aspect of human life, and second language education is not an exception, giving rise to computer-enhanced language learning and mobile-assisted language learning. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of WhatsApp, Adobe Connect, and face-to-face classes on learning collocations by Iranian EFL learners in Qom, and to make comparisons among these three platforms. Thus, a quasi-experimental design was set up in which a number of available intermediate-level students were assigned to a WhatsApp group, an Adobe Connect group, and a Control group. The three groups were given a collocation pretest at the outset of the study and they were exposed to collocations, though through different media. In the treatment, which lasted for 10 sessions, for the learners in the WAG and ACG, the collocations were presented via a picture, an example sentence, and a follow-up quiz, which the CG learners received the same collocations in a similar fashion except that they were not provided with videos/pictures. At the end of the experiment, the learners were given a posttest of collocations, and the following results were obtained after running paired-samples t tests and a one-way ANCOVA: (a) the three groups of WAG, ACG, and CG were fruitful and the learners in all these environments improved significantly from pretest to posttest of collocations, and (b) ACG learners significantly outperformed WAG learners, who in turn could perform significantly better than the CG learners. The obtained results bear implications for education in general and second language instruction in particular. پرونده مقاله

        Collocation methods are popular in providing numerical approximations to complicated governing equations owing to their simplicity in implementation. However, point collocation methods have limitations regarding accuracy and have been modified upon with the application of B-spline approximations. The present study reports the stress and deformation behavior of shear deformable functionally graded cantilever beam using B-spline collocation technique. The material grading is along the beam height and varies according to power law. Poisson’s ratio is assumed to be a constant. The equations are derived using virtual work principle in the framework of Timoshenko beams to obtain a unified formulation for such beams. A sixth order basis function is used for approximation and collocation points are generated using Greville abscissa. Deformation and stresses; bending (axial) stresses and transverse (shear) stresses, and position of neutral axis are studied for a wide range of power law index values.         The stress wave propagation in a generalized thermoelastic polygonal plate of inner and outer cross sections is studied using the Fourier expansion collocation method. The wave equation of motion based on two-dimensional theory of elasticity is applied under the plane strain assumption of generalized thermoelastic plate of polygonal shape, composed of homogeneous isotropic material. The frequency equations are obtained by satisfying the irregular boundary conditions along the inner and outer surface of the polygonal plate. The computed non-dimensional wave number and wave velocity of triangular, square, pentagonal and hexagonal plates are given by dispersion curves for longitudinal and flexural antisymmetric modes of vibrations.         In this paper, bending analysis of concentric and eccentric beam stiffened square and rectangular plate using the meshless collocation method has been investigated. For detecting the governing equations of plate and beams, Mindlin plate theory and Timoshenko beam theory have been used, respectively, with the stiffness matrices of the plate and the beams obtained separately. The stiffness matrices of the plate and the beams were combined together using transformation equations to obtain a total stiffness matrix. Being independent of the mesh along with its simpler implementation process, compared to the other numerical methods, the meshless collocation method was used for analyzing the beam stiffened plate. In order to produce meshless shape functions, radial point interpolation method was used where moment matrix singularity problem of the polynomial interpolation method was fixed. Also, the Multiquadric radial basis function was used for point interpolations. Used to have solutions of increased accuracy and stability were polynomials with the radial basis functions. Several examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the method used to analyze stiffened plates with the accuracy of the results showing acceptable accuracy that the employed method in analyzing concentric and eccentric beam stiffened square and rectangular plates. پرونده مقاله

        In this paper, a numerical implementation of an expansion method is developed for solving Abel's integral equations of the first and second kind. The solution of such equations may demonstrate a singular behaviour in the neighbourhood of the initial point of the interval ofintegration. The suggested method is based on the use of Taylor series expansion to overcome the singularity which leads to approximating the unknown function and it's derivatives in terms of Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind. The proposed method, transforms the Abel's integral equations of the first and second kind into a system of linear algebraic equations which can be solved by Gaussian elimination algorithm. Finally, some numerical examples are included to clarify the accuracy and applicability of the presented method which indicate that proposed method is computationally very attractive.         ABSTRACT The purpose of the present study was to explore if advance organizers with the help of MALL-oriented classrooms can help Iranian EFL learners improve their collocational knowledge or not. In other words, this study investigated the effect of advance organizers on improving collocational knowledge of Iranian EFL learners in a MALL-oriented classroom environment. To accomplish this aim, a quasi-experimental method of research, using a pretest-posttest design with a control group was employed in order to answer the research question. After the homogenization procedure the participants were divided into two groups of control and experimental. In order to investigate the effectiveness of the treatment and also compare the two proficiency levels regarding the treatment, two teacher-made multiple-choice grammar tests were employed as the pre- and post-test.         When vocabulary teaching is taken into account in EFL classes in our Iranian state primary schools, teachers generally prefer to use classical techniques. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of visually-mediated collocations on the elementary EFL learners’ vocabulary learning. In order to conduct this study, 60 students from two classrooms in an elementary class, participated in this study. The experimental group was taught new words using collocation techniques; the control group was taught new words using classical techniques such as synonym, antonym, definition and mother tongue translation. Both groups were given the same pre-test at the beginning of the term and after the classroom treatment, including 8 sessions of teaching English vocabulary through collocations, all the participants were given the same multiple- choice tests as a summative evaluation. The statistical finding in the pre-test revealed that the participants' performance had almost the equal mean score, while the performances of both groups in the post-test were significantly different. The result of the study indicated that the group receiving the method of teaching collocations had better performance in vocabulary test than teaching them using classical techniques. Teaching vocabulary through collocations can be effective factors in helping students remember the new words. Therefore, teachers of English could be encouraged to attach more importance to vocabulary teaching rather than the acquisition of grammar and the use of current vocabulary teaching strategies in their classes. پرونده مقاله

This research compared the performance of native Persian and English elementary students to see if there is any significant difference between the two groups and which type of collocation they performed better within the groups. For this purpose, 60 English and Persian students were selected from elementary schools in Kashan, Iran and New Castle, England. Two tests of collocation (lexical and grammatical) each containing thirty items were adopted. An independent t-test was run and no significant difference between the two groups in lexical collocation was found. But a significant difference was seen between the two groups regarding grammatical collocation. Accordingly, the face of learning is changing in general and new technologies are offering students and teachers tools and occasions inconceivable before. In this respect, this study aimed to investigate the impact of Telegram (as mobile technology) on collocation learning and retention of Iranian EFL learners. Participants of this study included 120 EFL learns (in two experimental (N= 60) and control (N=60) groups) who received different treatments over the study. Analyzing the results showed that there was a significant difference between the performances of experimental and control groups, of course, in favor of the experimental group who confirmed the effect of Telegram on improving collocational knowledge. In this study, 261 GPS/Leveling and 8869 gravity intensityvalues of Iran were selected, then the geoid with three methods “ellipsoidal stokes integral”,“BPANN”, and “collocation” were evaluated. Finally obtained results were compared and bestthe method was introduced. In Iran, the consequences showed that “BPANN” has been superiorthan other methods.         Lewis (1993) recognized significance of word combinations including collocations by presenting lexical approach. Because of the crucial role of collocation in vocabulary acquisition, this research set out to evaluate the rate of collocations in Iranian EFL learners' writing production across L1 and L2. In addition, L1 interference with L2 collocational use in the learner' writing samples was studied. To achieve this goal, 200 Persian EFL learners at BA level were selected. These participants were taking paragraph writing and essay writing courses in two successive semesters. As for the data analysis, mid-term, final exam, and also the assignments of L2 learners were evaluated. Because of the nominal nature of the data, chi-square test was utilized for data analysis. Then, the rate of lexical and grammatical collocations was calculated. Results showed that the lexical collocations outnumbered the grammatical collocations. Different categories of lexical collocations were also compared with regard to their frequencies in EFL writing production. The rate of the verb-noun and adjective-noun collocations appeared to be the highest and noun-verb collocations the lowest. The results also showed that L1 had both positive and negative effect on the occurrence of both grammatical and lexical collocations. پرونده مقاله

        Acquiring vocabulary has always been recognized as a significant and challenging part of language learning process. In this study, the researcher examined the extent to which form recall of target lexical items by learners of English as a foreign language (EFL) is affected by a) repetition and b) by the type of target item; single words versus collocations. The treatment consisted of non-communicative, (partly) decontextualized activities, in which the target items were taught and examined. For this purpose, 27 Iranian intermediate EFL learners were chosen and divided into two groups of A with 14 and B with 13 participants. In all activities, the participants had to supply the target items’ forms. Data were collected in a classroom setting in two groups, differing only in the type of target item. In class A, the research focused on single words and in class B the focus was on collocations. A pre and post test was administered to the participants before and after the treatment. The findings show a large effect of spaced repetition on form recall of single words and collocations.         Abstract The present study explores the impact of corpus-based collocation instruction on intermediate Iranian EFL learners' writing ability. For this study, 84 Iranian learners, studying English as a foreign language in Bayan Institute, Iran, were selected and were randomly divided into two groups, experimental and control. Conventional methods of writing instruction were taught to the control group while the experimental group received corpus-based collocation instruction in writing essays for 15 sessions. The design of the research was based on pre- and posttest method. The tests were employed to measure the writing fluency of the two groups. Test results were scrutinized to answer a major question for correlation between the participants’ variety of corpus-based collocations and their writing. The results illustrated that there was a significant difference between the mean scores of control and experimental groups in writing elements (p<0.05). Actually, lexical collocation instruction expanded the writing elements of vocabulary and mechanics rather than grammar and fluency in writing essays. The study findings indicated that there is a significantly positive correlation between the participants’ use of various lexical collocations and their writing proficiency. پرونده مقاله

        There is insufficient rigorous research examining which features of EFL/ESL learners’ writing can be improved through their awareness/knowledge of collocation. This study, therefore, addressed this issue and examined the effect of this awareness on Iranian EFL learners’ writing performance with respect to the specific features of each writing sub-component (i.e., content, organization, vocabulary and language use) in the short and long term. The study was a quasi-experimental using a within- and between-group approach utilizing a pre-test/post-test design with a control group supplemented with the qualitative information obtained from the interviews with the writing raters. The results showed that developing knowledge/awareness of collocations effectively improved the participants’ quality of writing in terms of ‘vocabulary’, ‘organization’ and ‘language use’. A deeper analysis of the results revealed that the observed improvements in these sub-components were in terms of some particular features: the range of sophistication, lexical choice and usage; succinctness, fluency and clarity of the expressed ideas; and the accuracy of agreement, tense and prepositions. In addition, the sub-findings emerging from the results accentuated the significance of instructional intervention, in general, and first language-second language contrastive analysis, in particular, in helping L2 learners notice, note and incorporate collocations in their output. پرونده مقاله

        In translation, choosing appropriate equivalent is essential to convey the right message from source-text to target-text, and one of the issues that may have a determinative role in appropriate equivalent choice is the semantic prosody (SP) behavior of words and the relation existing between the SP of a word and semantic senses (i.e. negativity, positivity or neutrality) of its collocations in the context. This research explored the impact of Iranian translator trainees' semantic prosody knowledge on the appropriate selection of equivalents in translation. The probable influence of proficiency level or fields of study on the appropriate selection of equivalents with respect to SP was concentrated as well. To fulfill the aims of the study, a translation test including a number of near-synonym pairs with different SPs was administered among participants with different fields of study as well as different proficiency levels. Findings were analyzed based on Sinclair's (1996) hypothesis of SP as well as Stubbs' (1995) model of SP classification. The study showed where there is more than one equivalent of a word in another language, having the knowledge and being aware of the conditions of semantic prosody is necessary to select the appropriate, accurate equivalents and thus to convey the exact message from a source text to the target one. The results also revealed that proficiency level and field of study among language learners can have an influence on choosing appropriate equivalents with respect to SP. The findings of the present study can be beneficial for the instructors and learners in both fields of translation and Teaching English as a Foreign Language to improve equivalent choice appropriateness. Also, this study by highlighting the essential role of semantic prosody in selecting appropriate equivalents can be beneficial to dictionary compilers to include semantic prosody behaviors in the definition and information of words. پرونده مقاله

        Drawing on the assumptions of socio-cognitive linguistics, focusing on the effective role of interaction in terms of reducing the cognitive burden in the process of learning, this quasi-experimental study aimed at investigating the effect of the Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) usage on the learning and retention of non-congruent collocations among 60 homogenized Iranian EFL learners, aged 18 to 24 years old. To this end, the sample selection procedure yielded two intact groups: the experimental group (N=30) who experienced learning collocations through the IWB and the control group (N=30) who learned them through the use of conventional board. The t-test results of the comparison between the two groups on both the immediate and delayed post-tests indicate that the experimental group outperformed the control group, suggesting the effectiveness of the IWB for the purpose of learning (Sig. value = 0.01; Eta squared = 0.10) and retention (Sig. value = 0.04; Eta squared = 0.06) of non-congruent collocations, thus providing support for the interactive function of instructional materials, such as IWB.         Graphic organizers have been employed to facilitate second language learners' vocabulary knowledge development; however, the examination of the effects of these graphic organizer options on learners' collocation knowledge development has remained unexplored. This research investigated the effects of using teacher-generated, individually-generated, and cooperatively generated graphic organizers on Iranian English language learners' collocation knowledge. The present study examined these effects by studying 80 intermediate second language learners who were selected based on convenience sampling. The participants were assigned to four groups randomly. The collocations were provided on the board in the control group, and explanations were provided orally. In the teacher graphic organizer group, the teacher provided the learners with pre-filled graphic organizers with collocations. In the individually-generated group, the teacher provided the learners with a list of words in groups, and they had some minutes to generate their graphic organizers. In the cooperatively-generated group, the participants had some minutes to generate their graphic organizers cooperatively with their peers. Using a pre-test, immediate post-test, and delayed post-test, the researchers examined the effects of these conditions on learners' collocation knowledge. The findings showed that all graphic organizer groups were more successful than the control group in developing learners' collocation knowledge. In addition, the mean value of the participants’ scores in the cooperative group was significantly more than that of the teacher-generated and individually-generated groups, and there was no significant difference between the mean scores of the teacher and individual-generated graphic organizer groups. پرونده مقاله

They all took the Nelson proficiency test and 90 students who had gotten the higher scores were randomly divided into three groups of FoF, FoM, and FoFs. Before the treatment they were pretested and the results of the three groups did not have any significant difference, thus all of the learners were at the same level of knowledge. After the treatment, they were posttested and their scores in FoM group were considerably higher than the learner' scores in FoF and FoFs groups but the learners' scores in FoF and FoFs groups did not have any significant difference with each other. The findings of this study offer beneficial implications for EFL teachers, learners, and materials developers which are finally discussed. پرونده مقاله

To do so, 30 Iranian intermediate EFL learners were selected from four classes in a language institute and the classes were randomly allocated to two groups: an experimental and a control group. To observe the effect of the treatment, the participants underwent pre- and post-tests on speaking skill. They participated in 14 treatment sessions in which the experimental group practiced the chunks-on-card approach through drilling while the control group practiced the conventional approach. The findings of the Independent-Samples T-test as well as the Paired Samples T-test revealed significant differences among the pre- and post-tests scores of both groups.         The major objective of the present study is to measure up the effectiveness of teaching collocations in raising foreign language writing proficiency. It is widely acknowledged that collocations play an important role in second language learning, particularly at the intermediate and advanced levels. The current research was executed to investigate the influence of collocation instruction and consideration on enhancing Iranian EFL learners’ writing skill. To do so, thirty upper intermediate EFL learners were selected from among the learners in an English language institute. Their level of English proficiency was determined on the basis of a pretest at the outset of the study. Simply speaking, a test of writing ability as a pretest was administered of which the scores were used to assign the subjects into two homogeneous groups. The control group encountered passages without being resorted to prefabricated patterns (collocations), but the experimental group resorted to prefabricated patterns and tasks prior to writing texts respectively. The fundamental aim of this research was to gain a better understanding of the role collocations play in students’ writing. This study intended to investigate the correlation between Iranian EFL learners' use of lexical collocations (i.e. frequency and variety) and their writing scores. It was revealed that implementation of the prefabricated patterns had a great influence upon the subjects experiencing them in comparison to the control group. Experimental subjects outperformed in the post-test, at the significant level of .01.         The present study aimed to examine the rhetorical structure of the discussion sections of English PhD dissertations authored by Iranian students in an EFL context, Indian ESL students and native (English speaking) PhD students at Applied Linguistics. To this end, 300 discussion sections were gathered from three contexts under study at the time frame of 2005 to 2020. Following Benson et al’s (1986) model, the researchers analyzed the discussion sections of the dissertations for both lexical and grammatical collocations and their different sub-classifications. The findings showed that the natives overused collocations in a significantly greater number in developing the PhD dissertations discussion section than those of EFL and ESL PhD students' dissertations. Moreover, despite variations, there were similarities between EFL and ESL PhD students' dissertations in terms of utilizing the sub-categories of collocations that can be considered as signs for standardization of academic writing by non-native speakers of English.         AbstractThis study investigates the collocations, as specific type of multiword sequences that frequently occur in the scientific writing of hard and soft disciplines based on Hoey's (2005) model. The study also extends the semantic prosody of collocations in general words across disciplines. To this end, the introduction sections of 1000 research articles (RAs) from two disciplines of soft and hard were gathered from disciplines of applied linguistics, sociology, and psychology under the category of soft science and from the majors of computer science, chemistry, physics and medicine under the category of hard science in order to find a relationship between these two types of RAs with differences in discipline and the authors’ use of collocations and their semantic prosody. In this study, function words containing articles were ignored that their rates and frequencies were higher than the content words, including specific and general words. The findings indicated that the collocates of general words expressed the positive, negative, and neutral senses and being in soft or hard science did not affect their semantic prosody. It means that the general words directly expressed the meaning they transferred to the reader, without the interference of the context. The results can result in collocation teaching, which is a popular genre of academic writing assigned across disciplines as well as in language-related courses. پرونده مقاله

        Negotiation, as an interactional strategy and proactive focus on form (FoF) have received increased attention in second language research. The combination of negotiation and proactive FoF, however, has not been examined in relation to L2 vocabulary learning. To address this gap, the present study investigated how the amount of negotiation and proactive FoF impacted learners’ vocabulary knowledge development. The participants were 100 adult learners of English, assigned to three experimental groups and one control group. The three experimental groups investigated three categories of no negotiation, limited negotiation, and extended negotiation in proactive FoF. A pretest-posttest design was employed in order to detect any improvement in participants’ vocabulary knowledge components, consisting of collocations, synonyms, derivation, and hyponymy. The results revealed that (a) participants’ vocabulary knowledge significantly improved in all the experimental groups, (b) extended negotiation was significantly superior to limited negotiation, and limited negotiation was significantly superior to no negotiation in proactive FoF, and (c) derivation was the least affected vocabulary component by the treatment. پرونده مقاله

        One of the most problematic areas in foreign language learning is collocation. It is often seen as arbitrary and an overwhelming obstacle to the achievement of nativelike fluency. Current second language (L2) instruction research has encouraged the use of collaborative output tasks in L2 classrooms. This study examined the effects of two types of output tasks (editing and cloze) on the learning of English colloca-tions. The aim was to investigate whether doing the tasks collaboratively would lead to greater gains of knowledge of the target collocations than doing them individually. The knowledge of the target colloca-tions was measured by means of a collocation knowledge test administered before and after the treatment. The results showed that collaborative output tasks led to greater collocation knowledge than individual output tasks. The results, however, showed an effect for task type in promoting the learning of the target collocations, with the cloze tasks being more effective than the editing tasks. One obvious implication is that teachers need to incorporate more collaborative output tasks into their instruction in their attempts to facilitate the acquisition of L2 collocations by the learners. پرونده مقاله

        This study aimed at finding features of collocational deviations in the translations of Tuesdays with Mor- rie. In this direction, categories of collocations and collocational clashes, as well as causes of collocation- al clashes were explored. The present work investigated five Persian translations of the novel. All the books were examined completely and all possible collocational clashes were extracted. After checking with an educated native speaker and Persian dictionaries of collocations, they were categorized and tabu- lated according to the taxonomy proposed by Benson (1985). Two general conclusions were deducted at the macrostructural level: Benson‘s taxonomy could not meet all requirements and categories concerning comparison of collcational clashes in English-Persian pair; thus, the researchers added some new catego- ries to Benson‘s taxonomy. The second conclusion was that the translators after the first translator, pro- duced more collocational clashes. At the microstructural level, 249 instances of collocational clashes were extracted from the translations. The most frequent patterns of collocational clashes belonged to ―Verb + Noun‖ and ―Adjective + Noun‖ patterns, and the least frequent patterns belonged to ―Adverb + Adjec- tive‖, ―Noun + Verb (Names of Sounds)‖, ―Adverb + Adverb‖ with no examples in the corpus. The re- sults of this study could confirm the universality of collocational clashes among translations and they may be applied for pedagogical purposes in teaching the pitfalls of rendering collocations. پرونده مقاله

In this paper, Differential Quadrature (DQ) method- based RBFs are applied to find the numerical solution of the linear and nonlinear PDEs. The multiquadric (MQ) RBFs as basis function will introduce and applied to discretize PDEs. Differential quadrature will introduce briefly and then we obtain the numerical solution of the PDEs. DQ is a numerical method for approximate and discretized partial derivatives of solution function.         This paper presents a numerical matrix method based on Bernstein polynomials (BPs) for approximate the solution of a system of m-th order nonlinear Volterra integro-differential equations under initial conditions. The approach is based on operational matrices of BPs. Using the collocation points,this approach reduces the systems of Volterra integro-differential equations associated with the given conditions, to a system of nonlinear algebraic equations. By solving such arising non linear system, the Bernstein coefficients can be determined to obtain the finite Bernstein series approach. Numerical examples are tested and the resultes are incorporated to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the approach. Comparisons with a number of conventional methods are made in order to verify the nature of accuracy and the applicability of the proposed approach.         The collocation method based on cubic B-spline, is developed to approximate the solution of second kind nonlinear Fredholm integral equations. First of all, we collocate the solution by B-spline collocation method then the Newton-Cotes formula use to approximate the integrand. Convergence analysis has been investigated and proved that the quadrature rule is third order convergent. The presented method is tested with four examples, and the errors in the solution are compared with the existing methods [1, 2, 3, 4] to verify the accuracy and convergent nature of proposed methods. The RMS errors in the solutions are tabulated in table 3 which shows that our method can be applied for large values of n, but the maximum n which has been used by the existing methods are only n = 10, moreover our method is accurate and stable for different values of n. پرونده مقاله

Finally, some pertinent examples for which the exact solution is known are used in numerical simulation to confirm the effectiveness and relevance. Alternatively, these examples will demonstrate the viability and correctness of the suggested approach. Therefore, this method has no constraints such as the integration accuracy and the integration CPU time, and equations can be isolated directly from the strong form of governing PDE. The fundamental problem of this method is unstable solution especially in the case, including derivative boundary conditions. In this paper hermite type shape functions are used to impose boundary conditions.
