Social Interaction is one of the basic and essential needs of human being that significantly affects the social and individual health. Sociologist and psychologist have always emphasized its formation and continuity. This subject has always been considered in the field of Architecture and Urban Design as an important aim in creating new urban spaces. The research seeks to enhance social interactions in public urban spaces particularly streets. Once a street is inviting and appointed with what residents may need, residents go into it to meet their needs or for their leisure time. In this way people find the chance to meet each other and start to socialize. Over time, one point of their way will become the Meeting Place. Presence in this type of places will increase fixation morality of cooperation. Residents voluntarily go to a place that meets their needs. Residents are looking for comfort and social interactions in Urban Spaces. Designing urban spaces as a connection between urban neighborhoods should be helpful in the context of social interactions. Correct way of design and prediction of dynamic activities can lead to implementation of more attractive place. Social sustainability of an area is a situation that residents of that local area are satisfied with living there with their neighbors. The main purpose of this paper is to define and recognize the affect of urban amenities and constituent qualitative components of urban streets at neighborhood scale in the extent of social indecision and sustainable civil relations. Therefore this present study is categorized in the analytical and exploratory researches which carried out on streets of Tehran concentrating on the social interactions and qualitative characteristics of urban streets. In this research it is initially tried to identify effective components of how an Urban Space is being inviting, particularly urban streets with better accessibility among urban neighborhoods presenting characteristics of Urban Environment. Also the impact of an urban space fabric and functions on the formation of social interactions is considered. These mentioned parameters were noted in the literature studies and theories of theoreticians like Whyte, Gehl, Carr, Lennard, Porta, S, Renne, J and Naghizadeh. Finally after introducing socialization of Urban Spaces in Iran, an interlocal boulevard is designed to attract residents to communicate and have social interactions using an analytical method with developed theoretical framework model. This model introduced effective factors of designing more healthy Urban Spaces. According to results obtained from the theoretical framework and field observations this fact is concluded that lack of attention to Urban Fabric, activities and its current function appropriateness to Urban Fabric characteristics in access roads, can be the main reason in reducing qualitative aspects of attraction in urban spaces and formation of the social interactions. It is also undeniable that presence of residents in particular places is an effective factor to attract and invite other people. Various fields of activities must be located in appropriate location in urban places. Locating different uses in a correct way that provides people presence in various times of day and night. To make the knowledge of urban design suitable for the situation of Iran and in order to achieve vernacular urban design, besides broadening the knowledge of urban design, it is utterly crucial to evaluate today’s urban design knowledge and its circumstances. Given the fact that, after about 4 decades from the entrance of the knowledge of urban design into Iran, which seems to be an appropriate time for adjustments, the overall endeavors in both theoretical and practical fields are not successful enough. Moreover, there are not convenient investigations to determine the current condition of this field in Iran. In this paper we have tried to survey the condition of urban design’s knowledge in the main texts in Iran in both translated and compiled texts to discover the current and future challenges of this knowledge. In fact, we have surveyed all published books until winter of 1388. We have used two definitely substantial references to explain the aim of article, firstly, the article of Anne Vernez Moudon “A Catholic Approach to Organizing What Urban Designers Should Know”, we use the categories about the main domains of urban design which she introduces in her article and secondly, the book of Alexander R. Cuthbert “The Form of City”, that he introduces 40 significant texts of urban design. Texts in Iran were compared with these 40 books in different ways. The hypothesis of this research is that the knowledge of urban design has some deficiencies in both content and structure so to evaluate this hypothesis, at first we should introduce published texts and domains of urban design in Iran and then analyze the contents of them. It determines the amount of attention to these domains and the entrance trend of them into Iran and the proportion of translated books to compiled ones to find out the current criteria of urban design texts. We have used tables and some statistical ways to assess this issue. Thus, in the first table, we conclude that 65% of the most significant books of urban design which Cuthbert listed are not translated in Iran yet. Furthermore, most of books in Iran are translated, in other words, the proportion of translated books to compiled ones is 39 to 25. As far as compiled books are concerned in the second table it should be noted that most of these books take into account vernacular urban design by 75%. Finally, in the third table, we conclude that place studies have the maximum numbers of published books among other theoretical domains and picturesque studies have placed second in this ranking. Consequently, after evaluation of these tables and other deductions, we express the further challenges of urban design’s knowledge such as globalization and the question of how to deal with the gap between what we might call the ‘tradition of fixity’ and the ‘prognosis of transience’ and other challenges. In fact, we deduce that this knowledge could not reach to a purpose-built productive flux. Eventually, we propose workable solutions to improve this untenable situation. Manuscript profile

After victory of Islamic Revolution in 1360 (1981), wide mutations as a result of excited values of the Revolution caused lots of changes in different fields, including architecture. Following this, Cultural Revolution designers were adapted with new requirements of the community and orientations that introduced Revolution’s mottos after relative establishment of structure and educational contents of the universities. This matter, in conformity with general spirit of personality seeking processes of architecture, introduced necessity of changing in architecture training programs. In the field of architecture training, self-reversion , revival of  past stable values, Permanent concepts are in history, structure and content of training program from the viewpoint of Cultural Revolution designers about importance of theoretical studies in training, joining of architecture training with precinct culture, historical examination of architecture before modernism, of national and zone perspective. Existence of word identity in the introduction of Cultural Revolution staff program in 1363 (1984), demonstrated attentions towards basics of new training program of architecture. Then, seeking identity in training process is followed by emphasizing on Islamic architectural history and Iranian architectural history.   This period was contemporary with predominance of global process of postmodernism on West architecture. Postmodernism thoughts, criticizing inattention of modern architecture thinkers towards history of establishment of architecture in different places, chooses increasing, antonym, complex and metaphorical in its expressions. Prevalence of West postmodernism numerosity thoughts resulted in establishment of most of Iranian contemporary architecture works.   On one hand, contemporary human’s social life, expansion of relationships and breaking boundaries are mixed with globalization idea. Contemporary world’s occurrences and mutations have widespread concepts in today life. Community technology, telecommunication, internet, satellite and so are things that involve human in network of relationships in different manners. So, after technical and technological advances of modernism, media could broadcast art and architecture mutations all around the world as other matters. Postmodernism attitude could increase its symbolic dimensions and attendance ways.   Iran’s temporary architecture, which has a root in past architecture, is together with global widespread mutations, as a result of today world’s achievements and ideal that belongs to all of humans. Today architectures encounter with twosome status of doubt towards past values and captivation towards new values, as well as sentiment coherency to the past and excitement to the future; and this matter force them to search about recognition of personal and collective identity. Despite entering of current thoughts in West architecture to Iran, before entering and usage, tools and information technology was growing slowly and after the movement, it grows fast. It is necessary to evaluate reasons and results of these changes. While theoretical basics resulted from consideration of personality seeking, on one hand, and entrance of attitudes in West architecture on the other hand, (but without passing prerequisite processes that was caused appearance of the aforesaid thoughts), have significant influence on architecture of Iran. The present study involved in explaining Iran’s architecture approach after the Revolution and evaluating its personality seeking objectives against a phenomenon, called globalization, emersion of information technology, media and computers. Introduction and Aim: Tourist sidewalks connect dynamic urban spaces and tourists and can be considered the main factor of tourism development and the active presence of tourists in urban spaces in addition to their economic and social role. Hamadan city, especially Haghmatane hill, despite having wide capacities, needs more amenities for urban tourism. The main purpose of this research is to investigate successful international experiences and compare urban sidewalks and identify these capabilities in the physical space of sidewalks in Hegmatane area. Method: This research deals with the qualitative analysis of these sidewalks in order to see how much it has been able to be a basis for improving the quality of urban life and attracting tourists in this area, and on the other hand, it is a basis for using positive experiences in other similar pedestrian areas. to provide Findings: Holding various ceremonies, rituals and festivals appropriate to the site and cultural heritage in the complex can help to attract the audience and connect the site with the city. There is a significant difference between domestic and foreign tourists in terms of the time of presence of tourists in the complex, in such a way that domestic tourists mostly visit this area during Nowruz holidays and after that in summer, respectively in the months of Shahrivar, August and a smaller number in July. They visit After that, the complex hosted more foreign tourists in the months of April, May and November respectively. Conclusion: successful global experiences have shown that the planning and design of pedestrian spaces will be successful when, in addition to considering the physical factors, social, cultural, climatic conditions, psychological and behavioral patterns of the people, the needs and tastes of the local people are taken into consideration. Therefore, in the planning and organizing of pedestrian paths, it is necessary to identify and structurally and qualitatively analyze the mutual relations of the movement system of pedestrians with other aspects of the stability of the area along with the balance and balance of people's lives. For this reason, a comprehensive and principled approach should be taken to organize the sidewalks, such as shortening the accesses, full security and health coverage of the sidewalks, compliance with the requirements of comfort and variety in the route, building and creating desirable views, providing the necessary equipment for movement in day and night and providing social grounds for sustainable local participation.   Manuscript profile

Urban systems include many closely related components that have become more measurable than before due to new sensors, data collection, and spatio-temporal analysis methods. Transforming these data into knowledge to facilitate planning efforts in addressing the current challenges of complex urban systems requires advanced interdisciplinary analysis methods, such as urban informatics or urban data science. However, by applying a purely data-driven approach, it is very easy to get lost in the "forest" of data, and miss the "tree" of successful and livable cities that are the ultimate goal of city planning. This paper describes how geospatial data from urban analysis, using hybrid methods, can contribute to a better understanding of urban dynamics and human behavior, and how it can enhance planning efforts to improve livability. Based on a review of the latest research, this paper goes a step further and also addresses the potential as well as the limitations of new data sources in urban analytics to get a better overview of the entire "jungle" of these new data sources. The present work is a qualitative review based on research conducted with analytical methods about the reliability of using big data from social media platforms or sensors, and how to extract information from massive amounts of data through new analytical methods, such as learning. The machine is for more informed decision-making with the aim of improving urban livability. The purpose of this article is to review some of the synergies and challenges of the interdisciplinary approach (dissection and urban analysis based on GIS in improving the livability of cities, by examining the key findings and questions obtained from the advanced literature).    Manuscript profile

Background and Objective: Growing urbanization has different consequences which one of them is increasing the temperature of cities thus, more usage of mechanical air-condition, more energy consumption and environmental and health consequences are inevitable. The necessity of thermal mitigating methods in designing sustainable cities, especially by adjusting received radiation, has been emphasized. Therefore, Sky View Factor (SVF) as a quantitative index has been proposed.  Considering the fact that, urban streets have the largest area among other urban spaces and play an important role in thermal comfort in cities, streets in hot and dry climate (Isfahan) in two directions of N-S and E-W were selected. Method: In this study, field studies and simulation have been applied. Field study has been conducted in 17 streets with different width, closeness and green coverage, in summer 2014.. In ENVI-met  5 green arrangements in 3 closeness scale (1, 1/2, ¼) were simulated to investigate green and physical SVF separately. Data gathering, calculating SVF (Rayman has been applied in field study), homogenizing data and statistical and logical analysis between variations, in the procedure applied in both methods. Findings: The minimum SVF, which is effective to heat mitigation in Isfahan, is 0.6, which can be greenery or buildings. In addition, the most effective SVF is less than 0.2. As a result, Sabat with SVF equals to zero have been a traditional smart choice in this climate. Discussion and Conclusion: Finally, the results indicate a relatively high accuracy of three methods in estimating the transmission potential for land use and land cover changes, but according to the kappa coefficients, the accuracy of Similarity Weighted Instance based Learning method more than the other two methods.   Manuscript profile

Background and Objective: Urbanization in the past, due to a coherent view of the city and not distinguishing between nature and urban context, left positive effects that are seen today. Experts are seeking to apply new practical approaches in the design and reconstruction of urban spaces, so that they can solve the existing problems. Material and Methodology: The current research is descriptive-analytical in terms of method and applied research in terms of purpose. Findings: The achievement of this research in theoretical foundations is the introduction of bio-urbanism as a new approach in urban design that considers the urban environment as a very complex living object and tries to connect natural elements and human needs and sees urbanism as inseparably linked with biology. By analyzing three selected case examples based on the components of biourbanism, how the solutions based on them were investigated, and finally, the edge of the Kileh Tankabon spring river as a domestic and local research case, was analyzed and parts of it were designed as a sample of the selected projects. Discussion and Conclusion: This new type of urban approach and its application in Iran may face a large number of limitations, such as: high maintenance costs, low public awareness of its benefits, and diverging interests of the real estate market. But it is possible to gradually overcome the problems through a broad concept promotion and by raising the level of awareness about the usefulness of ecosystem services and the interaction of larger target groups. Today, the issue of worn-out textures is one of the main issues of urban planning. Cultural Reconstruction is a new approach to urban regeneration that seeks to rebuild the city and neighborhood by taking advantage of the socio-cultural characteristics and advantages of each region and to create a distinct physical physical space based on the local culture and characteristics of the residents. Create that special place. This approach has a positive effect on the economy and job creation in cities and can increase social cohesion and the tourism industry in the city and reduce crime. The method of this research is descriptive-analytical and is based on documentary and field studies. In the qualitative part of the research, the data of the semi-structured interview were analyzed using contextual theory. The research findings indicate that from the residents' point of view, regeneration depends on social and economic dynamism and vitality. In this regard, categories such as ease of theft and recklessness, safety and security, unemployment and poverty, built space, social, participation of residents and the view of officials, cultural and historical, economic facilities, equipment and services are influential. Also, the presence or absence of trust and motivation has a special effect on the way residents look at the future and the neighborhood. In the quantitative part of this research, by compiling a questionnaire and completing them by residents and experts, by analyzing the results of the questionnaire data and using Friedman and correlation tests, the research findings show that the cultural index has gained the first rank. The existence of cultural potential (tangible and intangible heritage) is a good omen for cultural re-creation. Among the indicators, the environmental index is ranked last. The climatic conditions of Urmia as well as the interest of citizens in nature and agriculture are two elements that can be improved with the efforts of more designers and officials. Also, the social component has gained the second rank, which indicates the high potential of social capital in the historical context of Urmia.Extended Abstract Introduction:      Security is one of the most important components affecting the quality of urban spaces. Today, most of these spaces, which are the center of social interactions of residential contexts, have become merely transitory channels without social life. With the reduction of residents' sense of belonging and the lack of public oversight, the above spaces have become places for committing various crimes. Any solution to restore and improve the safety and security and environmental efficiency of the old fabric of historic cities, requires a comprehensive view of the whole and the body of the city to be able to create an integrated view. The number of existing problems and the variety of decision-making centers in general have made this problem seem to be an insurmountable impasse in most cities of Iran. Inhomogeneous and unbalanced distribution of services in the city and especially in the historical centers of cities, uncoordinated growth of residential areas, urban facilities and equipment, population growth, unbalanced distribution of population in the city and lack of hierarchy consistent with today's life in urban arteries, lack of attention Social and cultural issues in the contexts are among the issues that each of them has an important impact on the formation of cities in Iran today, the need for rational payment and the revival of historical centers and rational load on these areas. May. What has turned the old urban fabric into a problematic node is physical deterioration over time, followed by social and cultural vulnerability. Problems and limitations such as incompatibility of body and activity, the existence of inconsistent urban elements, a small per capita use of some uses such as leisure, cultural and parking spaces, lack of proper hierarchy in the communication network and lack of permeability into organic tissue, Incompatible uses and traffic absorption, lack of public spaces suitable for the formation of social interactions, disruption in the land use system, some environmental pollution, gradual outflow of capital and activity reduce the importance and value of the historical context and identity of cities It has led to the departure of groups with high financial power and a sense of belonging to it, and has been replaced by low-income groups that lack a sense of place and space. In recent years, regeneration is considered as a new way to get out of the problems in valuable historical contexts, which facilitates the process of regeneration in three areas by improving and developing unique features of the place, such as historical and cultural values. It will be physical, economic and social. Today, culture has a more effective role not only in creating employment, urban regeneration and social cohesion, not only due to its inherent mission in promoting human rights and shaping collective knowledge and improving the quality of life.Methodology:      The present research in terms of purpose, the present research is considered as a category of basic-applied research and in terms of nature and method, this study is a combination of descriptive-analytical methods. Using library studies, documents and theoretical foundations related to the subject and foreign examples were collected. Using field studies, statistical and descriptive data required for research were collected using the question. Letters, interviews, field observations and impressions are covered. In this research, using the principles of grounded theory method (grounded theory), data collection by snowball method has continued until theoretical saturation. The method of data analysis and theory explanation is based on the coding process including open coding, axial coding and selective (selective) coding. ). Research information and data were obtained from a statistical sample using a semi-structured interview. The content analysis of the interviews was done in a regular and at the same time tedious process of data comparison, and for this purpose, a three-step process was used according to the approach of Strauss and Corbin. Also, for quantification, the questionnaire method and tests of SPSS software are used. Results and discussion:      In the qualitative part of the research, the data of the semi-structured interview were analyzed using contextual theory. In a small part of this research, by compiling a questionnaire and completing them by residents and experts, by analyzing the results of the questionnaire data and using Friedman tests and correlation of results were obtained. Based on the obtained results, the cultural index has obtained the first rank. The existence of cultural potential (tangible and intangible heritage) is a good omen for recreating the underlying culture. Among the indicators, the environmental index is ranked last. Urmia's climatic conditions as well as citizens' interest in nature and agriculture are two elements that can be improved with the efforts of more designers and officials. Conclusion:       The present study studies the historical context of Urmia, which by extracting the criteria related to safety, security and reconstruction, tries to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the historical context of Urmia and eliminate its shortcomings and improve its spatial status. The existence of cultural potential (tangible and intangible heritage) is a good omen for cultural re-creation. Among the indicators, the environmental index is ranked last. The sense of belonging to a place is related to the amount of human presence in the environment. Regardless of the reason, this presence is not just a quantitative aspect to express numbers and figures, but also has a qualitative aspect that is due to the reasons for human presence in urban spaces and places. In the meantime, urban design can promote the sense of belonging to a place among citizens by providing suitable patterns. In this article, by comparing the factors affecting the sense of belonging to the place in four different neighborhoods of Sanandaj city, it is tried to determine the reason for the residential behavior of the citizens. In this research, using a researcher-made questionnaire with 331 numbers and using the Pearson correlation test, the questions will be tested. In this research, we have come to the conclusion that the factors affecting the sense of belonging to the place among citizens are different in different neighborhoods, for example, in the old or middle neighborhood, historical and cultural factors can play a colorful role in promoting the sense of belonging to a place. But in new urban areas, physical factors such as open and recreational spaces, facilities and natural elements can play an important role in the sense of place. As a result, people in old and new neighborhoods gain dimensions of sense of belonging and lose dimensions that ideally, in order to gather as many factors as possible on the sense of belonging to a place in a neighborhood, the first step is to identify and compare the factors. It was discussed in this article. Manuscript profile

One major problem of urbanization during recent years is the waned or eliminated environmental components from urban life that is the root cause of various problems encountered in urban settlements. Environmental quality loss in urban spaces, especially in city centers, caused designers and planners to propose various approaches in an effort to compensate damages to the environment. In recent years, as a solution to environmental pollutions, urban planners and designers have developed different approaches with unique features and guidelines, distinguishing them from one another; based on the components forming them. Regaining urban nature and natural characteristics of residential areas was a unique solution which was designed and implemented in many projects during recent years. Biophilic urbanism is a modern and comprehensive plan proposed to organize different cities around the world and improve their environmental qualities, built on their environmental potentials. Proposing solutions based on environmental capabilities of areas of intervention, considering existing situation, the approach is supposed to provide a realistic plan and bring urban plan achievement rate to the highest level. This approach has tried to reconcile nature with dense urban spaces in the city and provide the presence of natural and bio-centered elements as one of the main components of urban space design. Therefore, accurate knowledge of urban spaces with the potential to implement these components is one of the most important tools in order to achieve a biophilic city. The city of Qazvin has been surrounded, by traditional gardens and numerous natural spaces for centuries, which has made it known as one of the most important cities in the country with a good climate for many years. Unfortunately, in recent years, due to the growth of urbanization as well as the widespread destruction of traditional orchards around the city and natural green spaces in the city, there is a lack of natural spaces in urban textures. In this Article , it tries to exploit the theoretical sources in relation to this approach and study the world experiences in this regard and using descriptive methods and data analysis in the sources, based on the method of working group design to extract urban design criteria based on biophilic approach in central texture of cities. The central texture of Qazvin as one of the ancient urban spaces in Iran and also due to the natural green spaces left over from big urban gardens during the prosperity and glory of the capital of the Safavid dynasty, can be the first executive pilot of this model in the country. Also, in order to achieve the design model of central urban textures based on biophilic approach, eight essential criteria include: 1- Form, body and structure 2- Transportation and access 3- Use and activities 4- Landscape system 5- Educational system and raising people's awareness 6- Ecology 7- Management and policy making system 8- Energy was extracted from the obtained information in order to implement it in the field of intervention. In the next step, biophilic urban design criteria were developed to organize the central textures of the city, which included two stages of design criteria. Then, the process of compiling a biophilic urban design guide for the central textures of cities was pointed out, which was in fact a clear path to achieve the final strategies for implementation in the field of intervention. Finally, suggestions and strategies for the implementation of these components in the central urban textures  and especially the intervention area (the Square of Shohada or Sabzeh Meydan in Qazvin and the surrounding accesses), Based on the eight necessary criteria mentioned and based on the type of intervention and action in the mentioned space were developed and presented. the results of this Article show that , in case of potential in urban central tissues , By using biophilic urban design components, the presence of natural elements in dense and compact urban spaces can be provided and in the design of urban spaces, the realization of a nature-oriented city can also be helped. Therefore, it can be acknowledged that the use of biophilic urban design components can be an important device in organizing urban central textures. The role of "urban landscape" and its beautification is one of the important factors in creating a positive mental image and promoting the aesthetic experience of citizens.Combining landscape design techniques with "environmental" and ecological values is one of the newest plans and strategies to achieve sustainable development in the present age.In order to identify the level of concern and attention of Islamic teachings in dealing with the mentioned concepts, the present study has explained the rules of urban jurisprudence by modeling the components and approaches proposed in "urban aesthetics" and urban landscape and evaluates its efficiency. The method of the present research is descriptive-analytical and has been adjusted by referring to library sources and due to the interdisciplinary nature of the subject, it has applied and combined theories in the two fields of aesthetics and urban jurisprudence. It should be noted that the purpose of urban jurisprudence is a series of religious teachings and rules of jurisprudence related to the customs and requirements of urbanization, which can be identified, extracted and applied to the subject according to the present research from the written jurisprudential heritage. The results of the research show that by using the existing rules in the written jurisprudential heritage such as the rule of Saltanah, Aitlaf, Tasbib and La darar, and in combining them with aesthetic methods and approaches, efficiency and the greater effectiveness of these standards in managing the place and urban landscape becomes more achievable. Also, the research findings indicate that the concern of paying attention to the environment and human encounter with urban space are among the issues that have been considered by jurists. In this regard, the issue of maintaining the privacy and moral and psychological security of citizens is one of the advantages of urban jurisprudence that should be considered and based on action in urban management.  Manuscript profile

In the past, cities have been good examples of energy-efficient urban design in terms of ecological constraints. Looking at traditional cities and comparing them with modern urban planning, we see adverse environmental consequences in the scale of design of building units and the spatial structure of cities. Therefore, it seems necessary to identify the effective factors in the design of traditional sustainable cities, using simulation software before the project or in the proposed options, to the optimal forms in the components (individual buildings) and Urban combinations (urban textures) was achieved. The present research combines descriptive-analytical methods, typological studies, drawing and simulation of models, following the analysis of energy consumption and thermal comfort in different types of building forms, urban blocks, and spatial structure of Isfahan in 4 historical periods. Therefore, by using energy simulation software (Design Builder) and thermal comfort (Envi-Met) and analysis of Space Syntax, the relationship between independent variables (physical and spatial characteristics of the urban fabric) and dependent variables, the amount of energy consumption (to provide heating, cooling, and lighting) and thermal comfort, in each of the proposed scenarios, has been investigated. Based on the results, it is possible to formulate guidelines for the climatic design of urban structures in the form of three components; The system and pattern of segmentation and segregation of urban land, the shape and characteristics of the mass/space in urban contexts and the pattern of the network of texture passages, regulation, and operational construction. The dominant forms of the Qajar period are more sustainable forms than other historical periods in terms of energy performance and adaptation to the climate. Also, spatial structures with the highest degree of spatial connection can provide a higher percentage of thermal comfort conditions in urban open spaces. Manuscript profile

Being one of main subjects of urban areas, motor vehicles have brought a lot of difficulties to the urban fabric. With rising of motor vehicles, the real meaning of cities has vanished. Thus walkability has become one of the major concerns in urban planning however due to lack of information and experiences to understand the factors affecting the degree of walkability in cities and neighborhoods. If these roads have low environmental quality, people won’t spend their time there. The aim of this study is to declare strategies to improve quality of these places. Hence, by using literature review, factors involved in improving the quality of environment identified and the hypothetical model was developed. To test the model validity, it was presented to experts in this field. The model was modified duo to their comments so that it would be appropriate and indigenous to nature of the case. The final model which is based on Canter model, consist of three dimensions including environmental, functional and aesthetic. The case chosen is a walkable street named “Saf” in Tehran city. To run the appraisal procedure, SWOT model- a renowned analytical system- was used to determine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. According to analysis, street is in the inappropriate position, weakness and threats are more powerful than other cases. So it is situated in TW position and the solution are presented for this special condition to expunge the weaknesses and moderate threats .In order to achieve the research goal which is environmental quality improvement, guidelines are suggested to regulate the environment with a view to eliminate weaknesses and possibilities of threats. For each quality, special solution are presented. They are proposed to provide the ground to implement a walkable area in which commercial and recreational activities associated with it, would become more thriving. Manuscript profile

Abstract As a dominant approach in the literature on urban design, walkable urban spaces are of great importance. So, the concept of "bridge as a social space" which has a valuable place, especially in Iran, can be redefined and used in the development of today's spaces. Social bridges have many benefits that can be effective at different levels from the neighborhood to the world in addition to their walkability because they have great potential for creative design and can be used to fulfill goals such as establishing social interactions, creating collective memories, creating identity, and dynamic functioning for cities. This qualitative study was conducted to identify the factors that make urban bridges successful social spaces. For this purpose, after reviewing the theoretical foundations and world experiences, two bridges of Tehran, where urban life flows, were examined. The visitors to these spaces were randomly selected and interviewed in-depth concerning the qualities of the space. The interviews were continued until theoretical saturation was achieved. The collected data were then analyzed by content analysis. The results indicated that the criteria for the qualities of social bridges are based on functional and perceptual components. Keywords: urban design qualities, social bridges, walkable bridges, walkability, Pedestrian promenade.
