Characterizing distributions is the process of finding the unique properties that distinguish a particular distribution from others. There are various methods for doing this, such as using moments, maximum entropy, hazard rate, and so on. Nanda (2010) used failure rate and mean residual life functions to characterizing some distributions. In this paper, we extend the results of Nanda (2010). We characterize the Pareto, exponential, and Rayleigh distributions by refining the main results of that paper. We take some inequalities from that paper and propose a new inequality. Then, we raise both sides of the inequalities to some power and show that equality holds if and only if certain distributions are characterized. Manuscript profile

In the present investigation, Variational Iteration Method (VIM) is applied to solve the dynamic oscillation of a current-carrying wire in a magnetic field which is generated by a fixed current-carrying conductor parallel to the wire. Two linear springs are considered to restrict the wire to a rigid wall. In a special case, the periodic solution of the problem is obtained by VIM and compared with numerical solutions for different parameters. Results indicate high accuracy of this method which can be easily extended to solve other non-linear vibration equations, therefore can be applicable in other engineering problems. In many situations, the performance and the changes of outputs related to dynamic systems should be estimated while the convexity property is relaxed. Accordingly, first, a dynamic free disposal hull (FDH) model is proposed in this paper to address the efficiency of processes in multiple period of time while the convexity assumption is unsatisfied. Also, two problems, including a mixed integer linear programming and a linear programming model are provided to compute the dynamic FDH model that is a mixed integer non-linear programming problem. Then the changes of multi-period outputs are dealt with for changes of inputs related to several periods using the proposed inverse dynamic FDH model while the efficiency levels are preserved. A case study of gas industry is, moreover, presented to demonstrate the introduced models. The results show the proposed technique is useful to analyze the performance and to estimate outputs in dynamic processes without including convexity. Manuscript profile

This study proposes a method for solving mixed integer multi-objective fractional signomial geometric programming (MIMOFSGP) problems. A few methods have been applied in the recent past to convert a fractional signomial objective function into a non-fractional signomial objective function to find the optimal solution by use of some common mathematical programming techniques. In this paper, at first a multi-objective fractional signomial programming is converted into a non-fractional multi-objective signomial programming problem by a new convenient reformulation strategy. A convex relaxation is used to reach global solution and then fuzzy programming technique is applied to find the optimal compromise solution. A mixed integer compromise optimal solution of the convex programming problem can finally be found by use of nonlinear branch and bound algorithm. Then 0n using the Spacial branch and bound algorithm, we find a solution that has the shortest distance from the solution of original problem. Finally two illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the correctness and efficiency of the proposed strategy and compare the results with the other solutions obtained by the other methods. Several authors have proposed different methods to find the solution of fully fuzzy linear programming (FFLP) problems. But all the existing methods are based on the assumption that all the fuzzy coefficients and the fuzzy variables are non-negative fuzzy numbers. in this paper a new method is proposed to solve an FFLP problems with arbitrary fuzzy coefficients and arbitrary fuzzy variables, that is, there is no restriction on the elements that have been used in the FFLP problems. By using the radius of gyration function (ROG) we show that fuzzy solution obtained of solving FFLP problems, is exact fuzzy optimal solution of FFLP problems. The introduce method are very easy to understand and to apply for fully fuzzy linear systems occurring in real life ‎situation.‎ Manuscript profile

Generalized Returns To Scale has been introduced to compute the rate of variation in outputs to the variation in inputs up to the Most Productive Scale Size pattern. In this paper, we address the generalized RTS in the multiplicative models and we propose an algorithm to calculate the rate of variations in different intervals. We also demonstrate that the non-discretionary factors can be easily taken into account in the algorithm. Manuscript profile

The numerical solution of linear integral equations of third kind is discussed in various studies, but in the previous researches on this kind of equations only the analytical solution was investigated. Due to some limitations for this kind of solutions, in this paper we propose a new method for numerical solution of linear integral equations of third kind. The proposed method is based on the approximation of the unknown function with Krall-Laguerre polynomials. This method has a simple computation with a quite acceptable approximate solution. Moreover, we obtain an estimate of the error bound for suggested method. Two examples are also presented to show the efficiency of the proposed method. Manuscript profile

Data envelopment analysis (DEA), is a non-parametric mathematical programming technique to evaluate the efficiency of a set of homogeneous decision-making units (DMUs), so that DMUs are evaluated into two groups, efficient and inefficient. According to the staggering costs in order to managing DMUs or organizations, maintaining some loss-making organizations are not cost-effective. Therefore, one of the concerns of managers in the discussion related to the financial problems of organizations is the maintenance or merger or elimination of inefficient organizations (inefficient DMUs). However, this article focuses on the performance of inefficient units. Therefore, we measure the productivity of inefficient DMUs using the revised Malmquist productivity index (MPI) to make a decision based on the maintenance or merger or elimination of these DMUs by decision makers (DMs).
