The present study aimed to compare the effect of training successful marriage and that of training choice theory on the marital choice the young couples make. The method applied was quasi-experimental with a design in the form of pre-test, post-test and follow-up. The statistical population included newly married couples in Isfahan who had visited psychological consultants in the summer of 2019. Through subjective sampling, 45 couples were selected and then randomly divided into three groups: two experimental groups and one control group each of which included 15 couples. In order to measure the dependent variable, a researcher-made marital-choice questionnaire(Khanbani et al, 2014) was conducted. The group of successful marriage and the group of choice theory were both trained for 5 ninety-minute sessions but the control group did not receive any training. The results indicated that in terms of the variable of emotional choice, there was only a significant difference between the group of successful marriage and the group of choice theory in the post-test stage (p<0.05).Also, in the follow-up stage, there was only a significant difference between the group of successful marriage and the group of choice theory versus the control group(p<0.01).Likewise, in terms of the forced-choice variable, a significant difference was found only in the follow-up stage between the group of successful marriage and the group of choice theory versus the control group(p<0.05). Given the positive effect of training successful marriage and of training choice theory on encouraging the young couples to make logical choice in marriage, it is suggested that clinics and/or centers providing marital advisory service apply the mentioned training courses to prevent the undesired consequences of compulsory and/or emotional marriage.
