The present study was conducted to determine the contribution of family functioning variables (problem solving, communication, role performance,‌‌‌‌emotional responsiveness, emotional intercourse, behavior control and overall functioning), sensation seeking and aggression in the prediction of video games addiction among students. The method of this study was descriptive correlational. So, 302 high school boy students from Karaj City were selected with multi-stage sampling method and studied. Instruments of the study were family assessment device (FAD), problem video game playing (PVP), sensation seeking scale (SSS) and Buss & Perry aggression questionnaire. Pearson correlation and stepwise regression analysis were used for statistical analysis of the data. The results indicated that there was a significant correlation between family functioning in all dimensions (problem solving, communication, role performance, emotional responsiveness, emotional intercourse, controlling behavior and overall performance) and the video games addiction of students (r=0.31, P<0.01). There was a positive relationship between aggression of students and video games addiction (r=0.47, P<0.01). Between sensation seeking of students there was a significant positive relationship with video games addiction (r=0.27, P<0.01). The regression results indicated that among the investigated predictive variables, variables of aggression, role performance (a dimension of family functioning), and sensation seeking were able to predict the video games addiction. In general, 28.4% of the variance in video games addiction was explained with the variables. Manuscript profile

the purpose of this research was to examine the role of identity in the relationship between family functioning and problem behavior in a sample of 300 (150 females, 150 males) second year middle school students. Family functioning was operationalized in terms of parent-adolescent communication, parental involvement and positive parenting. Problem behavior was operationalized in terms of aggressive behavior, rule breaking behavior, and attention problems. Structural equation models indicated that 22% of the total (direct and indirect) relationships between family functioning and problem behavior operated through identity variables, and identity confusion partially mediated the relationship between family functioning and early adolescent problem behavior. The present findings suggested that both family functioning and identity may play important roles in directing young adolescents toward or away from problem behavior. Implications for intervention were discussed. Manuscript profile

This study aimed to examine family functioning patterns as mediators between perceived childhood attachment to each parent (secure and insecure) and religious coping. Seven hundred and seventy students of Tehran universities were selected using multi-stage sampling. The participants completed the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (Olson, Gorall, & Tiesel, 2004), the Religious Coping Scale (Pargament, Koeing, & Perez, 2000), and the Childhood Attachment to each Parent Scale (Hazan & Shaver, 1986). Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results indicated that 1) Chaotically disengaged family fully mediated the relationship between insecure attachment to each parent and positive religious coping, 2) Adaptability cohesion family mediated the relationship between secure attachment to each parent and negative religious coping, 3) Insecure attachment to father had direct and indirect (through family adaptability and cohesion) effects on negative religious coping, and 4) Secure attachment to father had a direct effect on positive religious coping but attachment to mother didn't not have a direct effect on religious coping. These findings suggests that not only attachment history is important in understanding religious coping strategies but also family functioning plays an important role in this relationship.     Manuscript profile

Chronic pain is a common problem in health that can lead to disability, in case it gets chronic. On the other hand, recent studies have emphasized that the context of the patient's family and the people who live with this patients are affected by this condition. This family interaction patterns affect the quality and life style. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between disability and fear of movement as a predictor variables with family functioning in musculoskeletal patients with chronic pain. To this end, through a descriptive study, correlational type, 82 patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain were selected from available samples. They were evaluated in terms of intensity of pain, disability, fear of movement and family functioning. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated weakness and fear of movement significantly predict the functioning of the family. Also, there is a significant difference between intensity of pain and disability and fear of movement in patients.  It seems having chronic pain involves family system over time and becomes part of the disease. This study emphasizes on the importance of systematic approach in the study of pain based on the fact that individual and interpersonal variables have a significant mediator and moderator role in explaining the consequences of pain.
