The ancient Persians always esteemed women as being equal to men in all aspects of life. Etymologically, the word “woman” in Persian language originated from the word (zan), which means “giving birth”. The word had different forms in various languages: (zan) and (nārīg) in Pahlavi, (wa/əδ) in Soghdi, (wadū) or (wad) in Old Persian, (Vantav) in Avestan, and (Vadhu) in Sanskrit. The importance and the high status attributed to women were manifested in titles given to women as well as in their determination to defend their reputation, family, and land. Such a feature was also portrayed in ancient mythological goddesses such as Anahita, Spadnarmaz, Dena, Chista, and many others. Further, women’s love, affection, and commitment, in one perspective, and evil deviations, in another, were reflected in characteristics of female demons (daeva) like Jahi, Bushyasta, and others. However, all these myths refer to the good-evil duality in women’s nature. Therefore, as Anahita – female divinity of water, fertility, and kingship – possesses good attributes and pursues positive goals, evil attributes, such as vindictiveness and spitefulness are depicted in ādā – another goddess. Since long ago, there was a thick wall to separate the women`s personality and position in poetry. It is noteworthy to know that in the ancient culture of our territory, there was another firm custom in women` quotation, except imagery, which was the poet`s pen. The tremendous part of our country`s literature included poetical works. The title of this article is too general and there are many related topics about it. According to poets` opinion, there always seems a kind of duality in this matter; that is contradiction between good and bad. This way of thinking is the cornerstone and the foundation of the religious thought that keeps the poets minds busy. To the extent that in some poetical works of great poets like Ferdowsi, splendor and braveness of women like Gordafarid was portrayed, but on the other hand, some exaggerated role of dishonoring against women had been propounded. The excessive view of some poets toward women has been considered in this article. Manuscript profile

The purpose of the current research was to investigate the role and position of women as effective elements in marriage and having a family in the Shahnameh. The social approach of the stories in Shahnameh showed that having a family was out of patriarchal principles. In the other words, women were the social organizers of the family and men did not have any role in organizing of the family, while in the mythological approach there were patriarchy to the extent that there could be found  bravery and courage of men, as the battlefields `s victorious everywhere in Shahnameh. Cultural view of the Shahnameh to the marriage implied that most marriages were based on choosing wife from strange people and tribes suggesting the high characters of women in the society and it was insisted on the important role of women in managing their children affairs, especially their marriage. The other thing was that Ferdowsi have always showed the tendency toward choosing wife from strange tribes at the beginning of his epics stories that was accompanied with a kind of love stories to magnify these heroic characters. The results were inferred by reviewing verses and stories from Shahnameh as evidences.   Manuscript profile

The aim of this research was to investigate people`s cultural and credential beliefs from the religions` history of pre-Islam period in naming women. In the recent research the data were gathered from ancient books of Iran, Avesta and Pahlavi Persian. The old texts from ancient times of Iran show Iranians` beliefs, creeds, and cultural, social, and historical indices of pre-Islam period. These ancient beliefs and creeds show a part of people`s attitudes to name women using some materialistic symbols like sky, sun, and stars, and from spiritual view, it shows their belief to Gods and to the ancient Goddesses. Some of the Gods are ancient ones. It means that they were worshiped before Zoroaster, and due to being benefited from the divinity and the link with the divine religions, they had the spiritual and legendry reflection in the culture of the society. The results of data analysis on the basis of the ancient texts, showed the significant relationship between theological- religious beliefs and historical- cultural creeds and also social acceptance to name women. There was also luckiness and holiness of religious beliefs among all the cultural information that had the most powerful effect on naming girls in the past times of Iran. Manuscript profile
