Diagnosed with cancer is highly stressful. High stress can complicate other physical problems in patients with cancer through cortisol. Various psychological therapies have been proposed to intervene in reducing stress levels and, of course, to help these patients recover. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of spiritual therapy and cognitive-behavioural therapy on lowering blood cortisol levels in women with breast cancer. For this purpose, during a quasi-experimental study with the control and follow-up group, 60 people (20 participants for first treatment group, 20 for second  treatment group, and 20 for control group) from breast cancer women in Tehran's Shohada Tajrish Hospital in Tehran were selected using convenient sample method. Random forms were used in three experimental and control groups. The two experimental groups treated with spiritual and cognitive-behavioural therapy during eight, 90-minute sessions, but the control group did not receive treatment. The groups were tested for blood cortisol levels before, after, and 2 months after the intervention. The results of covariance analysis showed that both spiritual and cognitive-behavioural therapies were effective in reducing the cortisol levels of patients in treatment groups, although spiritual therapy was evaluated as more effective, also,  the effectiveness was consistent in the follow-up test. This research supports the greater impact of spiritual interventions in reducing patients' stress levels. Manuscript profile

The nature of systematic scleroderma is very threatening and debilitating and affects mental health, including the destruction of self-esteem in the patient. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of integrated psychotherapy with the orientation of four common factors on self-esteem and its four components (general, social, familial, and occupational or educational) in women with scleroderma. Therefore, in a Semi-experimental research was carried out with pretest design, post-test with control group and follow-up after 3 months of intervention. The statistical population included women with scleroderma referred to Shariati Hospital and Iran's Rheumatism Center in 2016. Of these, 30 patients were selected as available samples and randomly were placed in two control and treatment (experiment) groups, each of which consisted of 15 individuals. The instrument of this research was Cooper Smith's (1967) Self-esteem Questionnaire. The results of repeated measures analysis of variance showed that integrated psychotherapy with the orientation of four common factors, self-esteem and all its components increased in women with scleroderma, and this effect was lasting after three months. Therefore, integrated therapy with four commonality orientations (relationship, hope enhancing, awareness promotion and behavior regulation) is considered as an effective intervention in patients with scleroderma. Previous studies have revealed that many professionals are willing to use spiritual interventions in clinical settings; however, they have access to no standard guide for their implementation, evaluation, and upgrading. This study aimed to determine the role of the Spiritual Intervention Package (SIP) in altering the expression of serotonin and dopamine gene receptors, the serum levels of interleukin 10-interferon gamma and the necrosis factor of the alpha tumor, and blood cortisol levels, promoting general health, decreasing distress and sexual problems, and reinforcing empathy, marital satisfaction, and posttraumatic growth. To this end, this multi-axial research consisting of 10 independent studies (16-60 persons per group) was conducted and examined the effectiveness of SIP in a variety of clinical settings among women with breast cancer stages 1-3, who were visited at Shohadaye Tajrish Hospital during 2012-2017. The participants were selected using the purposive and voluntary sampling methods. The levels of IL4 and IFNγ, the percentage of T-CD, and 8 T-CD cells were assessed by flow cytometer. Moreover, general health, somatization, anxiety, social dysfunction, and depression; spiritual health, sexual problems, marital satisfaction, and posttraumatic growth were evaluated using standard questionnaires. The research showed the acceptable results for the implementation of SIP for concerned purposes. The effect size evaluation– a technique to compare the impacts of the SIP regardless of the sample size, and the squared ETA (R2) assessment showed that, on average, more than 70% of the observed changes in these studies were due to the application of spirituality intervention. The effect size for biological, psychological, and social measures revealed that SIP significantly improved the biological, psychological, and social status of patients with breast cancer.
