Designing and validating the sustainable tourism curriculum in higher education

Abstract :
The present study was conducted with the aim of designing and validating the model of sustainable tourism curriculum in higher education with a mixed research method. First, meta-synthesis method was used, the statistical population in the process of synthesis includes all the works published in this field from2000to2022in the valid database including62documents, member control method and the agreement coefficient equal to75%were used for the validation data. The findings were obtained in the form of the framework of ten elements of the sustainable tourism curriculum, presenting and validating the framework designed based on the opinions of 12 experts in tourism and curriculum planning through semi-structured interviews. Then, using quantitative method, data was validated using the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis model. The statistical population, all experts in the field of tourism and curriculum planning and doctoral students of both fields and samples were randomly selected from24universities and the questionnaire was sent to all professors and doctoral students in the selected universities. The validity of the questionnaire was calculated and confirmed by the Lawshe method and its reliability was96.8%through Cronbach's alpha test. The findings indicate that research constructs have sufficient validity in terms of convergence and correlation and indicated the fit of the sustainable tourism curriculum model in higher education. the results of the research can be used in educational and training courses in the field of tourism. Also, each area defined by the research findings can be used in its place according to the various trends in the field of tourism
