The Effect of Creative Thinking Instruction on the General Decision-Making Styles of Early Childhood Education Students at Borūjerd Girls’ National Skills College

Abstract :

The present study aimed to examine the effect of creative thinking instruction on the general decision-making styles of early childhood education students at Borūjerd Girls’ National Skills College. To this end, employing a semi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test measures, experimental and control groups, and random assignment, data were collected using the Scott and Bruce General Decision-Making Styles Questionnaire (1955). The statistical population included all early childhood education students at Borūjerd Girls’ National Skills College during the first semester of the 1402-1403 academic year. The sample consisted of 12 individuals in the experimental group and 12 individuals in the control group, selected via simple random sampling. The creative thinking instruction intervention—delivered through the book Teaching Thinking to the experimental group—was implemented over a period of 12 weeks, totaling 12 instructional hours. In the post-test phase, both groups were re-evaluated. Data analysis was conducted using analysis of covariance. The findings revealed that creative thinking instruction significantly influenced rational decision-making styles; it also significantly affected spontaneous decision-making styles and intuitive decision-making styles. However, creative thinking instruction did not significantly influence dependent decision-making styles nor avoidant decision-making styles. Overall, creative thinking instruction proved effective in modifying students’ general decision-making styles. In other words, there were statistically significant differences between the pre-test and post-test scores of general decision-making styles in both groups. Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected, and the research hypothesis—namely, that creative thinking instruction impacts the general decision-making styles of early childhood education students—is accepted. Based on these findings, the utility of creative thinking instruction on rational, spontaneous, and intuitive decision-making styles is evident, and it is recommended that universities provide appropriate environments for students to engage in creative thinking instructional methods throughout their studies.
