The purpose of this article was to determine the mediating role of coping strategies in the relationship between neuroticism and emotional divorce of Amol city couples. This research was of a descriptive-correlation type .The statistical population included all the couples who referred to counseling and psychology centers in Amol city in the academic year of 1401-1402, out of which 308 people were selected by cluster sampling method. From the emotional divorce questionnaires of Mohammadi and colleagues (2014); Costa and McCarey's (1992) big five personality questionnaire and Parker and Endler's (1990) coping styles were used to collect data. To analyze the data, Pearson's correlation coefficient and path analysis were used using spss and Amos software. Based on the results, neuroticism has a positive and significant effect on the emotional divorce of couples with acute conflict. Also, the results of the analysis of structural equation modeling showed that the conceptual model of the research has a very good fit with the experimental data, and the emotion-oriented and problem-oriented coping strategy has a mediating and meaningful role in the relationship between neuroticism and emotional divorce, but the avoidance-oriented coping strategy in the relationship between neuroticism and Emotional divorce has no mediating and meaningful role. Therefore, it is suggested that the rate of emotional divorce can be reduced by improving coping strategies in couples with acute conflict and paying attention to the personality trait of neuroticism.
