Abstract :
Introduction: This research aimed to examine the role of rationality in the theories of philosophers and to extract its components for education. This study is a qualitative research conducted using the grounded theory method with a comparative-analytical approach. The research included all scientific documents in the field of philosophy and education, from which the views of philosophers on rationality and related concepts in education could be extracted.
Research methodology: For data analysis, the graunded theory was used. The data collection tool included note-taking related to the concept of rationality and education. Firstly, sentences related to the main goal of the research were selected and coded from the relevant texts. The concept of rationality was developed from 340 codes based on the views of 93 philosophers and thinkers. From these initial codes, the researcher then selected 153 codes under the title “Reason, Rational, and Rationality.” Lastly, the selected categories of the concept of education were studied and compared with the selected codes from the second stage, and they were categorized in a table based on their alignment or misalignment with the views of philosophers.
Findings: The results indicated that, according to philosophers, education can utilize reason as a criterion for accepting the structure of education. In addition, it can be a tool for refinement in education and a guide towards goodness and directing in education, as well as for distinguishing right from wrong and understanding in education. Furthermore, the education can be an instrument for progress in education and understanding the limitations of reason in education.
Conclusion: This research highlights the fundamental role of rationality in education. It shows that reason serves as a key standard for shaping educational frameworks, correcting practices, and guiding ethical considerations. Ultimately, the findings encourage a rational-based approach to enhance the effectiveness and impact of education and learning.
