The effect of hope for the future on academic motivation through the mediating role of parents' cultural literacy in students

Abstract :
Introduction: This study was conducted to examine the effect of hope for the future on academic motivation through the mediating role of parents' cultural literacy among second-grade elementary school students in Hirmand County.
Research Methodology: The research method was descriptive-correlational with a structural equation modeling approach. The statistical population included 5,425 second-cycle elementary school students in Hirmand County during the 2023-2024 academic year, of which 357 students were selected through simple random sampling. The data collection tools included standardized questionnaires on hope for the future, academic motivation, and cultural literacy, with Cronbach’s alpha coefficients calculated as 0.71, 0.92, and 0.79, respectively. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 23 and LISREL 8.8 software.
Findings: The results showed that hope for the future has a positive and significant impact on students' academic motivation. Additionally, hope for the future positively influences academic motivation through the mediating role of parents' cultural literacy. Moreover, parents' cultural literacy directly affects students' academic motivation.
Conclusion: The findings highlight the importance of considering students' hope for the future and parents' level of cultural literacy in enhancing academic motivation and reveal the need for planning to improve these factors.
