Comparison of the Effect of Distress Tolerance and Social Phobia on the Rate of Student Use Virtual Social Networks

Abstract :
The aim of this study was the Comparison of the effect of distress tolerance and social phobia on the rate of student use virtual social networks. The method of this study was causal-comparative. The statistical population was all high school girls’ students in Tehran city who were studying in the academic year of 2018-2019.A sample of 385 individuals was selected through Cochran formula and Stratified sampling. Data were gathered using the questionnaire of the use of virtual social networks, simons and gaher distress tolerance scale, and conner's social phobia questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the discriminant function analysis. The results of discriminant analysis indicated one significant component. According to the recognized component, regulation, absorption, evaluation related to distress tolerance and fear and avoidance related to social phobia had the highest ability to differentiate between two groups of students. Also, the majority of the students with high use of virtual social networks and the highest percentage of recognition (69.2%) were correctly distinguished from other students and 66/9% of the subjects in the two groups were classified according to the obtained function correctly. The results of this classification indicated the ability of these variables in distinguishing between students with Different rates of using virtual social networks. Based on the present results, distress tolerance and social phobia factors related to the use of social networks.
