A mathematical model is presented to investigate the effects of sandiness, irregular boundary interfaces, heterogeneity and viscoelasticity on the phase velocity of Love waves. Geometry of the problem is consisting of an initially stressed viscoelastic layer with corrugated irregular boundaries, which is sandwiched between heterogeneous orthotropic semi-infinite half-space with initial stress and pre-stressed dry sandy half-space. Heterogeneity arises in the upper half-space is due to trigonometric variation in elastic parameters of the orthotropic medium. Inclusion of the concept of corrugated irregular viscoelastic layer clamped between two dissimilar half-spaces under different physical circumstances such as initial stress and heterogeneity brings a novelty to the existing literature related to the study of Love wave. Dispersion equation for Love wave is obtained in closed form. The obtained dispersion relation is found to be in well agreement with classical Love wave equation. Numerical example and graphical illustrations are made to demonstrate notable effect of initial stress, internal friction, wave number and amplitude of corrugations on the phase velocity of Love waves. پرونده مقاله

Reflection and transmission of plane waves between two initially stressed thermoelastic half-spaces with orthotropic type of anisotropy is studied. Incidence of a SV-type wave from the lower half-space is considered and the amplitude ratios of the reflected and transmitted SV-wave, P-wave and thermal wave are obtained by using appropriate boundary conditions. Numerical computation for a particular model is performed and graphs are plotted to study the effect of angle of incidence of the wave and the initial stress parameters of the half-spaces. From the graphical results, it is found that the modulus of reflection and transmission coefficients of the thermal wave is very less in comparison to reflection and transmission coefficients of P- and SV-waves. It is also observed that for vertical incidence of SV-wave we have only reflected and refracted SV-waves and there is no reflected or refracted P and thermal waves, whereas for horizontal incidence of SV-wave there exists only reflected SV-wave and no other reflected or transmitted wave exists. Moreover, it is found that all the reflection and transmission coefficients are strongly affected by the initial stress parameters of the both half-spaces. پرونده مقاله

The propagation of shear waves in an anisotropic fluid saturated porous layer over a prestressed semi-infinite homogeneous elastic half-space lying under an elastic homogeneous layer with irregularity present at the interface with rigid boundary has been studied. The rectangular irregularity has been taken in the half-space. The dispersion equation for shear waves is derived by using the perturbation technique followed by Fourier transformations. The dimensionless phase velocity is plotted against dimensionless wave number for the different size of ratios of depth of rectangular irregularity with the height of the layer and anisotropy parameters with the help of MATLAB graphical routines in presence and absence of initial stress. From the graphical results, it has been seen that the phase velocity is significantly influenced by the wave number, the depth of the irregularity, rigid boundary and initial stress. The acquired outcomes can be valuable for the investigation of geophysical prospecting and understanding the cause and evaluating of damage due to earthquakes. پرونده مقاله

The undulated characteristics of the irregular boundaries in the layered structure with piezoelectric materials generate some prominent effects on wave propagation. On the other hand, initial stress in the layered structure also play an important role in velocity characterization of the surface seismic waves. In light of the above, this paper studies the Rayleigh-type wave propagation in a composite structure with piezoelectric materials. Mathematical expressions for the mechanical displacement and electric potential function are obtained for both the piezoelectric layer and elastic substrate with the aid of coupled electromechanical field equations. Frequency equations for the waves are derived for both electrically open and short cases. The effects of the corrugation parameters, initial stress, piezoelectric constant, dielectric constant and thickness of the piezoelectric layer on the phase velocity of Rayleigh-type wave are discussed graphically for both the electrically open and short cases. Numerical examples and discussions are made to exhibit the findings graphically. The validation of the problem is made with the classical result. پرونده مقاله

In the present paper, effect of initial stresses on the propagation of Love waves has been investigated in a fluid saturated, anisotropic, porous layer lying in welded contact over a prestressed, non-homogeneous elastic half space. The dispersion equation of phase velocity has been derived. It has been found that the phase velocity of Love waves is considerably influenced by porosity and anisotropy of the porous layer, inhomogeneity of the half-space and prestressing present in the media, the layer and the half-space. The effect of the medium characteristics on the propagation of Love waves has been discussed and results of numerical calculations have been presented graphically. پرونده مقاله

The present paper studies the possibility of propagation of torsional surface waves in an inhomogeneous anisotropic layer lying between two heterogeneous half-spaces (upper and lower half-space). Both the half-spaces are assumed to be under compressive initial stress. The study reveals that under the assumed conditions, a torsional surface wave propagates in the medium. The dispersion relation of torsional surface wave has been obtained in the presence of heterogeneity, initial stress and anisotropic, and it is observed that the inhomogeneity factor due to quadratic and hyperbolic variations in rigidity, density and initial stress of the medium decreases the phase velocity as it increases. The result also shows that the initial stresses have a pronounced influence on the propagation of torsional surface waves. In the absence of anisotropy, Initial stress, inhomogeneity and rigidity of the upper half-space, then the dispersion relation coincide with the classical dispersion relation of Love wave. پرونده مقاله

The reflection and transmission of thermoelastic plane waves at an imperfect boundary of two dissimilar fibre-reinforced transversely isotropic thermoelastic solid half-spaces under hydrostatic initial stress has been investigated. The appropriate boundary conditions are applied at the interface to obtain the reflection and transmission coefficients of various reflected and transmitted waves with incidence of quasi-longitudinal (qP), quasi-thermal (qT) & quasi- transverse (qSV) waves respectively at an imperfect boundary and deduced for normal stiffness, transverse stiffness, thermal contact conductance and welded boundaries. The reflection and transmission coefficients are functions of frequency, initial stress and angle of incidence. There amplitude ratios are computed numerically and depicted graphically for a specific model to show the effect of initial stress. Some special cases are also deduced from the present investigation. پرونده مقاله

The present paper concerns with the effect of initial stress on the propagation of plane waves in a rotating transversely isotropic medium in the context of thermoelasticity theory of GN theory of type-II and III. After solving the governing equations, three waves propagating in the medium are obtained. The fastest among them is a quasi-longitudinal wave. The slowest of them is a thermal wave. The remaining is called quasi-transverse wave. The prefix ‘quasi’ refers to their polarizations being nearly, but not exactly, parallel or perpendicular to the direction of propagation. The polarizations of these three waves are not mutually orthogonal. After imposing the appropriate boundary conditions, the amplitudes of reflection coefficients have been obtained. Numerically, simulated results have been plotted graphically with respect to frequency to evince the effect of initial stress and anisotropy. پرونده مقاله

This paper deals with the propagation of magneto-thermo Rayleigh waves in a homogeneous viscoelastic half-space under initial stress. It has been observed that velocity of Rayleigh waves depends on viscosity, magnetic field, temperature and initial stress of the half-space. The frequency equation for Rayleigh waves under the effect of magnetic field, stress and temperature for both viscoelastic and elastic medium is first obtained by using classical theory of thermoelasticity and then computed numerically. The variation of phase velocity of Rayleigh waves with respect to initial hydrostatic stress in viscoelastic and elastic half-space is shown graphically. In the absence of various parameters of the medium, the obtained results are in agreement with classical results given by Caloi and Lockett. پرونده مقاله

The governing equations of a transversely isotropic dissipative medium are solved analytically to obtain the surface wave solutions. The appropriate solutions satisfy the required boundary conditions at the stress-free surface to obtain the frequency equation of Rayleigh wave. The numerical values of the non-dimensional speed of Rayleigh wave speed are computed for different values of frequency and initial stress parameter. The effects of transverse isotropy and initial stress parameter are observed on the Rayleigh wave speed. پرونده مقاله

The present article deals with the study of propagation of plane waves in isotropic generalized thermoelastic diffusion with voids under initial stress. It is found that, for two dimensional model of isotropic generalized thermoelastic diffusion with voids under initial stress, there exists four coupled waves namely, P wave, Mass Diffusion (MD) wave, thermal (T) wave and Volume Fraction (VF) wave. The phase propagation velocities and attenuation quality factor of these plane waves are also computed and depicted graphically. In addition, the fundamental solution of system of differential equations in the theory of initially stressed thermoelastic diffusion with voids in case of steady oscillations in terms of elementary functions has been constructed. Some basic properties of the fundamental solution are established and some particular cases are also discussed. پرونده مقاله

The propagation of torsional waves in a prestressed fiber-reinforced half-space under the effect of magnetic field and gravity has been discussed. The problem has been solved analytically using Whittaker function to obtain the exact solution frequency equations. Numerical results for stress, gravity and magnetic field are given and illustrated graphically. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by the boundary value condition for rigid boundary and for traction free boundary in the presence and in the absence of the effect of a magnetic field, gravity and stress. In the present paper, we are contemplating the influences of heterogeneities and pre-stresses on the propagation of Love-type waves in an initially stressed heterogeneous transversely isotropic layer of finite thickness lying over an inhomogeneous half space. The material constants and pre-stress have been taken as space dependent and arbitrary functions of depth in the respective media. To simplify the problem, we have used Whittaker’s function and separation of variables method. We present a general dispersion relation to describe the impacts on the propagation of Love-type waves in the structure. The present dispersion relation is analyzed case wise and also validated by comparison of the standard Love wave equation. Further, numerical computations are demonstrated graphically for the set of dimensionless parameters between dimensionless phase velocity and dimensionless wave number of the wave. پرونده مقاله

The three-phase-lag model and Green–Naghdi theory without energy dissipation are employed to study the deformation of a two-temperature fiber-reinforced medium with an internal heat source that is moving with a constant speed under a hydrostatic initial stress and the gravity field. The modulus of the elasticity is given as a linear function of the reference temperature. The exact expressions for the displacement components, force stresses, thermal temperature and conductive temperature are obtained by using normal mode analysis. The variations of the considered variables with the horizontal distance are illustrated graphically. A comparison is made with the results of the two theories for two different values of a hydrostatic initial stress. Comparisons are also made with the results of the two theories in the absence and presence of the gravity field as well as the linear temperature coefficient. پرونده مقاله
