Ficus vallis-choudae Delile has been reported to exhibit antifungal, anticonvulsant, anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activities. Herein we report the first ever pharmacochemical studies on the figs of Ficus vallis-choudae resulting in isolation of a new ceramide named nkwenamide (1). Also, seven known compounds including the binary mixture of β-amyrin palmitate (2) and lupeol palmitate (3), olean-12-en-3-one (4), n-hexacosan-1-ol (5), β-sitosterol (6), and mixture of β-amyrin (7) and lupeol (8) were isolated. Their structures were elucidated using spectroscopic methods. The methanol extract of the figs of this plant exhibited urease, and α-glucosidase activities and showed DPPH radical scavenging potency with IC50 values, 61.7, 73.7 and 87.4 µg/mL, respectively. It also showed a weak chemiluminescence activity as compared to ibuprofen. The mixture of 2 and 3 exhibited maximum urease inhibitory activity with IC50 value 23.9 µg/mL while the mixture of 7 and 8 showed the maximum α-glucosidase inhibition with IC50 value 44.0 µg/mL. All the isolates showed weak chemiluminescence activity. پرونده مقاله

Physalis peruviana L. is widely used in folk medicines to manage diabetes. This study aimed to identify new chemical constituents and explore in vitro antioxidant ability and alpha-glucosidase inhibition activity to explain its antidiabetic mechanism. Methanolic extracts and hexane fractions were prepared and analyzed by CG-FID and GC-MS. In vitro antidiabetic activity was assessed on α-glucosidase inhibition and DPPH models. The phytochemical analysis detected 29 constituents, manly heptacosane (25) and hexadecanoic acid methyl ester (14). Aliphatic hydrocarbons and esters were identified as the main classes of secondary metabolites. Compared to the standard, the methanol-water fraction was the most potent fraction on α-glucosidase inhibition (IC50 32.5 ± 0.27 µg/mL). The antioxidant values (IC50) of two fractions, and the reference were quite close (44.5 ± 0.54; 49.5 ± 0.87; 44.2 ± 0.77 µg/mL). Almost 82.75% are recognized for the first time in the leaf hexane fractions of this plant. The observed antioxidant activity was found to be significantly notable. پرونده مقاله

The essential oils (EOs) of the air-dried stem bark and leaves of Celtis zenkeri Engl. were extracted by hydrodistillation and characterized using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Twenty-three and nine compounds were respectively identified in the leaf and the stem bark EOs. Phytol (46.1%) was the most abundant compound in the leaf EO, while the major compounds in the stem bark EO were cycloeicosane (34.3%) and phytol (27.0%). The antioxidant activities of the obtained EOs were tested using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The percentage inhibition of the leaf EO (89.0%) was comparable to that of ascorbic acid (90.0%) and butylated hydroxy anisole (90.0%) at 250 µg/mL and higher than α-tocopherol (59.0%) at the same concentration. The EO of the stem bark of Celtis zenkeri Engl displayed good antioxidant activities when compared to the standard antioxidant drugs. The presence of these major constituents and the antioxidant activities of the EOs justify the ethnomedicinal uses of the Celtis zenkeri Engl. organs. پرونده مقاله
