Social capital as a complex or multifaceted structure or conception has species, levels, facets and subjective aspects, factors, outcomes and characteristics that are not specified in the theoretical and empirical sources as it should or may not have been. Although this concept has become a comprehensive topic in sociological texts, it has received less attention in the field of economics. In this paper, we try to review the results that the researchers in the field of economics with regard to the economic effects of social capital have gained through reviewing available sources, and to show the relationship between social capital and development in Iran. The most general result of the review of the literature of social capital in Iran is the disagreement and consensus of the researchers on the indicators of social capital in Iran. The researchers have used numerous and contradictory reagents to measure social capital. The results of the research showed that not only there is no positive relationship between development and social capital in Iran, but it is negative. This relationship goes back to the nature of the development process in Iran, because development in Iran is a government and not influenced by the economy. Manuscript profile
