It has long been argued that the controversy of identity is one of the main sources of crisis in the Middle East and international politics. That is, the existence of differences in the identity of the countries causes tension between them, while the convergence and similarity can lead to cooperation. Nevertheless, empirical evidence from the Middle East has long defied this hypothesis. The present study seeks to answer the question why does Saudi Arabia, who claims to be the leader of the Islamic world, has repeatedly opposed the rise of Islamist movements in the Middle East? The research hypothesis implies that, In the case of Saudi foreign policy, similarity became particularly threatening as the distinctiveness of the Saudi identity was challenged and identity similarity is as a source of conflict. To address this paradox, this article builds on the growing literature on ontological security to explaining how similarity can generate Tension, insecurity and identity risks. The article follows with a comparison of Saudi identity risks in the wake of the Iranian revolution (1979) and the ascendance of the Muslim Brotherhood to power in Egypt (2012). Manuscript profile

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the various dimensions of the Silk Road Initiative and to reveal its objectives, opportunities and barriers. In this regard, the main question of the paper is that the Silk Road Initiative was designed as the most important China strategy in the 21st Century to achieve its goals. It should be noted that the Silk Road is the largest initiative ever announced by a country in the world. This initiative covers sixty-five different countries in the world and costs about $ 4 trillion in 900 different projects. In addition, the plan has dimensions, objectives, and economic, political and security objectives. In this regard, in response to the above question, the hypothesis of the article is that the ultimate goal of China is to operate the Silk Road initiative to provide the economic, political and security contexts necessary for becoming a regional and global hegemony. However, it seems that the plan faces serious barriers and challenges, and ultimately China goals will not be maximized. The present article intends to discuss the question and hypothesis along with the goals, opportunities and obstacle of the project in three sections and in a descriptive-analytical way. Undoubtedly the developments in Arabian countries are one of the most important and influential developments that have occurred in the Middle East over the past decades. Of course there are widespread differences of opinions in regard of the nature, content and even the title or name of these developments. As a matter of fact some consider it as Arab Spring, Arab developments and others consider it Arab revolution or Islamic Awakening which all shows differences of attitudes regarding the nature of these unprecedented developments that have engulfed the Middle East region in recent years and are yet continuing. While these developments have great importance there are vast ambiguities about the origin, nature and future of these developments. Experts, scholars and academic circles as well as different countries have different attitudes and viewpoints about these developments in the Arab world. Various books have been written in recent years in order to explain and clarify these ambiguities and present a deeper and precise understanding of what is happening in the Arab world. Most of these books reflect different viewpoints. For example one can refer to the present book which has been authored by the initiative of “Fawaz Gerges”, the political science lecturer of London University who is considered as one of the most distinguished and prominent authorities on the Middle East region. In this book several other distinguished university teacher and observers have also contributed. Different articles of the book have meticulously and thoughtfully discuss the development in the Arab world from different perspective and viewpoint. For this reason academic circles have admired and welcomed the book and several critics have written reviews about it. The book consists of one introduction and four chapters which here in are discussed and reviewed.     Manuscript profile
