A Study of the Readability of Hedyehaye Asemani

Abstract :
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the readability of textbooks for grades four and five in primary schools _Hedyehaye Asemani_ in Iran to see how appropriate they are for the intended grades. The study used a content analysis approach using the indicators defined by Gunning. The textbook for grade four includes 23 lessons in 80 pages whereas the textbook for Grade Five includes 23 lessons in 103 pages. Our analysis shows that the readability of the books vary significantly in different parts and are well above the levels of the students in both grades. The analyses indicate the books are not at appropriate readability levels for the grades.
