Relationship between Science Performance in Iranian Students Participating in TIMSS 2003 Study with Individual and Familial Factors

Abstract :
The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of exogenous variables Socioeconomic status of family, gender and endogenous variables science self-concept, attitude towards science on the science achievement. The research has used Iranian students data from TIMSS 2003 . Path analysis showed that effect of science self-concept on science achievement was significant and direct and effect of this variable on attitude towards science was significant and indirect. Also effect of socioeconomic status of family on science self-concept and attitude towards science and science achievement was significant and direct. Effect of attitude towards science on science achievement was significant and direct and effect of gender on attitude towards science and science self-concept was significant and direct.
