Assessment of the Impact of Biophilic Architecture Components on the Organization of Eco-Lodges with the Approach of Sustainable Ecotourism Development in the Periphery of Tehran Metropolis

Abstract :

Ecotourism is a growing sector of the tourism industry that provides an environment free of guilt to satisfy the desire for travel and adventure. Unfortunately, despite the great potential and numerous opportunities for nature-based tourism on the outskirts of cities and metropolises in Iran, suitable accommodation facilities that can adequately meet the requirements of eco-tourists’ temporary stay are rarely available. This shortcoming has become a serious factor in the decline of tourist demand. The main objective of this study is to organize the physical structure of eco-lodges in rural areas of Damavand based on biophilic architecture components in order to promote the development of ecotourism. To achieve this goal, a mixed-method approach was employed, consisting of qualitative (grounded theory) and quantitative (statistical) methods. The required data were obtained through both library and field strategies, using questionnaires and interviews as survey tools. The survey population included 384 eco-tourists as questionnaire respondents, while 19 experts and specialists participated in the interviews. The results of the t-test analysis in SPSS indicate that in Artin Lodge, the indicators of “biodiversity” and “sensory variability” are in a desirable state; in  Lodge, “sensory variability” and “sense of vitality” are favorable; and in Khorshid Lodge, the indicators of “prospect,” “sensory variability,” “sense of vitality,” and “attraction” were evaluated positively. The remaining indicators, with significance values above 0.05 and negative t-values, were assessed as unfavorable..
