Abstract :
This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of self-deception in the relationship between mindfulness and social safeness. The research method was correlational and Participants were 300 (160 female and 140 male) undergraduates from Shiraz University who were selected by using a multi-stage cluster random sampling method and completed the Mindfulness Scale (Droutman, Golub, Oganesyan & Read, 2018), Self- Deception Questionnaire (Sirvent, Herrero, de la Villa Moral & Rodríguez, 2019), and Social Safeness Scale (Gilbert, McEwan, Bellew, Mills, & Gale, 2009). For analyzing the research model, structural equation modeling was used. The results showed the negative and significant relationship between mindfulness and self-deception, the negative and significant relationship between self-deception and social safeness, and the positive and significant relationship between mindfulness and social safeness. Self-deception was also able to mediate the relationship between mindfulness and social safeness. In general, the findings of this study suggest that improving students' mindfulness and reducing their self-deception can increase their social safeness.
