Investigating the nature of the dimensions of citizenship education in the social studies curriculum of elementary school

Abstract :
Aim of the research: The aim of this study was to identify the dimensions of citizenship education in the elementary school social studies curriculum. Research Method: The research approach was applied in terms of purpose and in terms of qualitative-descriptive implementation method was content analysis with emphasis on data-driven. The research population included the sixth grade social studies textbook of the elementary school in the academic year 1399-1400, which were selected as a sample according to the nature of the subject of all 24 courses. In order to validate the accuracy of the data, the researcher's self-review method and peer review were used, and for data reliability, a simultaneous review was used. Checklist was used to collect data and coded content analysis method was used to analyze the data. Findings:The findings of this study include 8 main categories, 18 sub-categories and 179 primary codes that these categories include various aspects of civic education with biological, futuristic, religious, developmental, global, social, political and economic nature. .Conclusion: The results show that due to the flexible and multiple nature of citizenship education in the social studies curriculum, the breadth of learning opportunities in the implementation of the curriculum should be anticipated and the contingency approach in teaching the concepts of citizenship should be considered. On the other hand, teachers should develop meaningful learning in the daily life of students in accordance with the characteristics of each dimension of citizenship education.
