Identifying the bioactive compounds of Tribulus terrestris fruit essential oil in Lorestan and Investigating the antioxidant activity of its extract

Abstract :

Many plants have medicinal properties and have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. Today, attention has been paid to antioxidant compounds for use in the pharmaceutical and food industries due to the unwanted side effects of artificial antioxidants. The aim of this study is to identify the bioactive monoterpenes of Lorestan tribulus terrestris plant essential oil and to investigate the antioxidant properties of its extract. By identifying the effective substances in the essential oil of the fruit of the thistle plant (Tribulus Terrestris) from the Zygophyllaceae family, it can be determined from the bioactive monoterpenes of the essential oil. And the antioxidant property of the methanolic extract of this plant was used in the production of herbal medicines. The results showed that Methyl Behenate is the most effective substance in St. John's wort essential oil, in the investigation of the antioxidant properties of their extracts through inhibition of free radicals, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and their comparison. It was determined with the synthetic antioxidant beta-hydroxytoluene (BHT) that its methanolic extract has the highest antioxidant properties among the milk thistle extracts. On the other hand, the antioxidant properties of the methanol extract of St. John's wort are higher than the synthetic antioxidant BHT, and for this reason, it can be used in the industry instead of synthetic antioxidants.
