Study of genetic diversity, morphology and flavonoid contents in “Khoshak” (Daphne mucronate Royle) in W Iran

Abstract :
Understanding genetic diversity and classification are essential activities in the management of plant geneticresources. In this study, in order to find the diversity in populations of Daphne mucronata, genetic diversity of 5populations collected from western Iran were analyzed using ITS and AFLP markers for the first time.Assessment of flavenoid content and morphological variation in populations were performed as well. Despitethe observation of identical ITS sequence in all populations, AFLP results showed 95 % intra-populational and 5% inter-popultiona variations. Populations collected from three cities Sardasht, Saqqez and Baneh, which aregeographically closer, showed similar genetic pattern and amount of flavonoid content. Based on our results, aclear relationship between populations based on the geographical proximity can be observed.
