Invasive species represent a good opportunity to evaluate SDMs predictive accuracy with independent data as their invasive range can expand quickly. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between presence of Leucanthemum vulgare Lam. and environmental variables in Fandoghlou rangeland, Ardabil, Iran using logistic regression model. Sampling was conducted in six sites as presence/absence of L. vulgare by a systematic random method in 2016. Physiographic, climatic, surface coverage and density of L. vulgare were measured in sampling sites. In the beginning, middle and end of each transect, soil samples were taken from the depth of rootstock of range plants including L. vulgare. Soil attributes were measured in the laboratory. The maps of physiographic and climate were derived from digital elevation model, and selected soil attributes were derived using Kriging interpolation method. Derived regression equation from the presence of L. vulgare was applied to map the effective environmental variables, and a prediction map was produced for the study area. The comparison between the predicted and actual maps was assessed using the Kappa coefficient. Results showed that the presence of L. vulgare had a positive relationship with temperature and volumetric soil water content factors and had a negative relationship with electrical conductivity, sodium, diffusible clay factors. Therefore, L. vulgare type is significantlyaffected by the presence of these factors (p<0.01). The Kappa coefficient was 0.55 for derived predicted map. The evaluation of the model indicated that logistic regression was able to predict the distribution of L. vulgare habitats. The results of this study gave more insight and understanding from the habitats and effective environmental factors in L. vulgare distribution. Manuscript profile -

A greenhouse experiment was performed to investigate the effect of Municipal Solid Waste Compost (MSWC) on phytoremediation efficiency of A. aucheri in 2017. For this, natural soil samples were taken from polluted soils of the rangelands around National Iranian Lead & Zinc Company-Zanjan, Iran. Then, MSWC with 0, 1, and 2 wt. was mixed with soil samples. Then, 4 kg pots were filled with this soil and seeds of A. aucheri were sown. After 6 months in the end of the experiment, plant samples were collected and shoot and root dry weights were measured and contents of Cd, Pb, Zn and Ni were estimated. To investigate the capability of A. aucheri to uptake and accumulate metals, the factors of Translocation Factor (TF) and Bio-Concentration Factor (BCF), and Remediation Factor (RF) were determined. The results indicated MSWC 2% uptake maximum Cd and Ni values in roots (80.80 and 10 mgkg−1, respectively) and shoots (65.60 and 6.28 mgkg−1, respectively) of the A. aucheri. Plants grown in pots treated with MSWC 2% had lower values of Pb in roots (3955 mgkg−1) and shoots (24.40 mgkg−1) as compared with control. Thus, it was concluded that A. aucheri can be an accumulator for Cd and Ni in the contaminated soils amended with MSWC. In contrast, usage of MSWC has been indicated to immobilize Pb and Zn in the soil. In general, A. aucheri can be used in raised phytoremediation Pb, Cd, Zn and Ni in the polluted soils. Evaluation of A. aucheri potential, however, needs future research of the impact of MSWC in the field conditions. Manuscript profile -

The present study aimed to develop the best predicting model for distribution of Prangos uloptera DC. using logistic regression (LR) and Maximum Entropy Methods (MaxEnt) in its habitat in the southern rangeland of Ardabil province, Iran. Vegetation data (presence and absence of P. uloptera) and environmental factors (including soil, topography and climatic variables) were collected. The original vegetation type map was prepared using slope and elevation maps (1: 25000 scale) and satellite imagery (Landsat). Vegetation samples were collected in 2016. In each site, three transects of 100 m length were deployed (two transects in the direction of a gradient and one transect perpendicular to the slope direction). On each transect, ten 4m2 plots were placed along each transect, and the total canopy cover and plant density were recorded. Overall, 180 plots were sampled in six sites. Soil samples were collected at a depth of 0-30 cm at the beginning and end of each transect. The LR method was performed in the SPSS Ver. 19 software, and the Maximum Entropy method was carried out in the MaxEnt Ver. 3.1 software. The LR model showed that rainfall had the highest effect on the distribution of the P. uloptera habitat. The accuracy of the LR method for the prediction map was good (Kappa index= 0.65). The MaxEnt method showed that variables, including sand, nitrogen (N), silt, and potassium (K) had the highest effect on distribution of P. uloptera habitat. However, the accuracy of the MaxEnt method was low (Kappa index=0.35). It was concluded that modeling methods could be used as a prediction tool to determine the location of plant species. This may lead to better rangelands management and improvement in areas with similar conditions. Manuscript profile -

Eight sites with elevation ranging from 900 to 2100 meters above sea level were selected, and three 100-m transects with 10 plots of 1 m2 were established along each one. Species were collected from the plots and their vegetative forms were determined and the factors related to the frequency of species were recorded. Forbs frequency were determined as 2.1% to 33.3%, shrubs 0.4% to 29.2% and grasses 0.4% to 46.7%. Along each transect, a soil sample was collected from depths of 0 to 30 cm. Then, some soil properties such as pH, Electrical Conductivity, Calcium, Sodium, Potassium, Phosphorus, Nitrogen, Magnesium, Calcium Carbonate equivalent, Organic carbon and Soil texture were determined. Vegetation ordination analysis including Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA), redundancy analysis (RDA) and Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) were performed in Canoco4.5 and PC-ORD5 software. Results of PCA showed organic carbon with eigenvector values of (0.42), nitrogen (0.41) and elevation (0.37) were important factors influencing the distribution of plants. CCA showed that elevation with eigenvector values of (0.37), potassium (0.35) and clay (0.44) were the most effective ones in forbs and grass distribution, potassium with eigenvector values of (0.35), pH (0.58) and organic carbon (0.42) were the most important factors. RDA in shrubs distribution also showed slope with eigenvector values of (0.44), elevation (0.37) and sand percent (0.46) were the most important factors. By doing this research, the basic knowledge of the ecological requirements in the rangelands of these areas was obtained. Thus, by the increase of technical knowledge, some activities can be done to protect, systematically exploit and restore the degraded areas. Manuscript profile -

Using MaxEnt Model (Case Study: Namin Rangelands, Ardabil, Iran)Journal of Rangeland Science , Issue 5 , Year , Autumn 2022This research aimed to determine the potential habitats of Vaccinium arctostaphylos as a rare species using the MaxEnt method. For this purpose, sampling was performed from the areas of V. arctostaphylos at eight habitats in Namin rangelands, Ardabil, Iran in 2020. Also MoreThis research aimed to determine the potential habitats of Vaccinium arctostaphylos as a rare species using the MaxEnt method. For this purpose, sampling was performed from the areas of V. arctostaphylos at eight habitats in Namin rangelands, Ardabil, Iran in 2020. Also, latitude and longitude as well as physiographic factors were recorded using GPS. Soil samples were collected from depth of 0-30 cm. Then, some physicochemical properties of soil such as pH, electrical conductivity, soil texture, lime, soluble potassium, magnesium, soluble sodium, particulate organic matter, absorbable phosphorus, soluble bicarbonate and clay, silt and sand percentage were measured in the laboratory. The MaxEnt model was used to determine the relationship between environmental factors and the distribution of V. arctostaphylos. The map of environmental factors affecting the distribution of the species was prepared using IDW geostatistical method in Arc-GISver.10.8 software. Kappa index was used to evaluate the conformity of the forecast map with the actual map. Results of the Jackknife efficiency index showed the variables of elevation, rainfall and temperature were the most important variables in the distribution of V. arctostaphylos, respectively. Results of response curves showed this species is likely to be present in the altitude range of 1500-1900 m. Also, the precipitation range in the presence habitats of species is 350-450 mm and the average annual temperature range is about 7-10 °C. Results showed that the accuracy of maximum entropy modeling with a Kappa index of 0.64 is acceptable and this model has good accuracy in predicting the presence of species with main habitat. Generally, results showed MaxEnt model could be used as a prediction tool to determine the distribution area of V. arctostaphylos. Moreover, the prepared forecast map can be used for better conservation of species and rangelands management and improvement of the regions and similar areas. Manuscript profile -

The aim of this study was to model the ANPP of Plant Functional Types (PFTs) and total ANPP with topographic factors in Siahpoush and Ganjgah rangelands of Ardabil province, Iran. Sampling was performed in one square meter plots in three elevation classes, three sloping classes and six geographical directions by clipping and weighing method. ANOVA was used to investigate the relationship between ANPP and topographic factor and ANPP maps were modeled in ArcGIS software using the extracted regression relationships. Results showed that the shrubs ANPP has a significant relationship with elevation. The highest ANPP of grasses and total ANPP which were 1008.27 and 1650.00 kg/ha, respectively were observed in the middle elevation (2107-1877 m). The shrubs ANPP was directly related to the slope and 209.86 kg/ha was estimated at slopes higher than 30%, but the ANPP of grasses and forbs decreased with increasing slope. The highest ANPP of Shrubs (266.25 kg/ha) in the northwest, forbs (458.51 kg/ha) in the eastern direction, grasses (853.44 kg/ha) and total ANPP (1447.00 kg/ha) were observed in the southwest direction. Topographic indices including Topographic Wetness Index (TWI), Stream Power Index (SPI) and Plan Curvature Index (PCI) had no significant effect on variation of ANPP. Assessing the accuracy of the modeled maps was acceptable. These results can provide basic information for estimating ANPP to support rangeland management and balance supply and demand with rangeland products. Manuscript profile -

Improper Seed Germination (SG) of plants is an undesirable factor in agriculture, pasture and rangeland restoration operations. Therefore, researchers are trying to examine different techniques to facilitate germination and improve seedling establishment. Facilitators play an important role in managing and improving growth processes, through accelerating SG. Towards this, the key aim of this study is to review different types of facilitators and their effects on the germination, growth, and establishment of plants. Results showed that: firstly, the most used method by various facilitators was seed pretreatment. Secondly, most of the germination tests for nanoparticles have been done in laboratory environments. It is necessary to examine these facilitators in the field and natural environments to determine their real efficiency and effectiveness. Thirdly, it seems that the use of effective microorganisms is much more cost-effective than nanoparticles due to the ease of use in large areas, cheaper price and higher efficiency. The general positive effects of facilitators include improving environmental stress resistance, plant growth, surface coverage, root depth, root length, the fresh and dry weight of root, SG, crop quality, and yield. Their adverse effects also differ depending on the various characteristics of both facilitators and plants. Manuscript profile
