The Status of Environmental Ethics in the Contents of Primary School Textbooks of Iran

Abstract :
The present study is to examine the status of environmental ethics in the contents of primary school textbooks, Persian (read and write), science, social teachings and gifts of heaven. The study is descriptive with using content analysis technique in order to gathering information. Concepts related to environmental ethics, according to three domains of cognitive, affective and skill have been studied in the form of text, homework, question and image. Research population was the primary school textbooks including Persian (read and write), science, social teachings and gifts of heaven in 1390-91. Total of concepts related to environmental ethics were in 22 volumes and in 535 units that 36.45 percent was in the form of text, 15.14 percent was in the form of homework, 25.61 percent was in the form of questions and 22.8 percent was in the form of image. Also from the related concepts of environmental ethics, 78 percent was dedicated to the cognitive domain, 13 percent was dedicated to the affective domain, and 9.7 percent was dedicated to the skill domain. Findings show that in there has been more attention to the cognitive purposes (knowledge domain) in primary school textbooks and the skill level had the lowest. Most attention to the environmental ethics has been in primary school science books and the lowest has been in gifts of heaven.
