Abstract :
From the point of view of rhetorical sciences, it is a symbol, word, phrase or sentence that, in addition to the apparent meaning, inspires a wide range of meanings to the reader. Symbolization is the best way to express mystical thoughts and indirectly reflect the thoughts and opinions of mystics. Examining the symbols of mystical texts, in addition to unraveling the ambiguity that prevails over them, is a window to enter the world of mystics' thoughts. A mystic, on the one hand, in order to express his mystical experiences and the indescribable taste that takes over his heart as a result of inner perceptions, and on the other hand, in order not to reveal the secrets of knowledge, he has no choice but to resort to the language of code and symbolic expression. does not have. Therefore, the symbol is an integral part of mystical texts. The works of Shah Nematullah, a famous mystic and Sufi of the 8th and 9th centuries of Hijri, are no exception to this rule. In order to express many of his mysterious and mystical experiences, he used the symbol element - including symbolic characters -. This research examines and analyzes the symbolic figures in the Diwan of Shah Nematullah Vali in a library and documentary way. The results indicate that Shah Wali, in the field of poetry, is more of a symbol-breaking poet than a symbolist and his excessive attention to the meaning, rhetorical and visual aspect of his symbols has severely weakened.
