Abstract :
Organizational commitment, defined as an emotional and psychological attachment through which individuals identify with their organization, may be associated with employees' attitudes and tendencies toward organizational silence. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the effect of organizational commitment on employees’ organizational silence with the mediating role of organizational trust. This research is applied in terms of purpose, descriptive in nature, and survey-based in terms of data collection method. The statistical population consisted of employees from both public and private universities in Mashhad. A stratified convenience sampling method was used, and ultimately, 384 valid questionnaires were included in the data analysis process. To measure organizational commitment, Allen and Meyer’s (1997) standard questionnaire was used. Organizational silence was assessed using Van Dyne et al.'s (2003) instrument, and organizational trust was measured with Scott’s (1990) standard questionnaire. Both face and construct validity were confirmed, and reliability was approved using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) via SPSS and Smart PLS software. The findings revealed that organizational commitment has a direct and significant effect on organizational silence. Furthermore, organizational trust showed a direct and significant effect on employees' silence. The indirect effect of organizational commitment on reducing organizational silence through trust was also found to be significant, indicating that organizational trust mediates the relationship between organizational commitment and organizational silence.
