Abstract :
Abstrac
his study was designed to investigate psychometric properties of Parental Young Diagnostic
Questionnaire(PYDQ) as an instrument of assessment problematic Internet use in adolescents by parents.Target population consisted of all senior high school students of Shiraz. The sample consisted of 403 student (189 girls, 214 boys) selected via clustered multistage random sampling method. Instruments that used in this study were the PYDQ,Developmental Family Function Assessment Questionnaire(DFFAQ) and the Internet Addiction Test(TAT).Validity of the PYDQ evaluated by exploratory factor analysis as well as convergent-divergent validity. We also calculated test-retest(0/94) and Cronbach’s alpha(0/77) reliability coefficients. Exploratory factor analysis, using Principal Component method and Varimax Rotation, revealed two factors: Emotional symptoms (4 items) and behavioral symptoms (4 items). Results showed acceptable construct,convergent-divergent validity and reliability of the PYDQ. Based on the findings of this study, the PYDQ is a suitble instrument for parental assessment of adolescent problematic Internet use.
