Examining pre-marriage education in people applying for marriage: a qualitative study

Abstract :

Introduction and purpose: Marriage has always been recognized as the most important and the highest social custom to achieve the emotional needs of people. Premarital education is one of the main priorities in programs to prevent individual and family abnormalities, reduce the rate of divorce and increase satisfaction with married life. Is. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze the pre-marriage education of people applying for marriage. Method: This study was conducted using a qualitative approach and a semi-structured interview technique. In order to carry out the research, in-depth and semi-structured interview technique was used. In this research, non-random and snowball sampling method was used. For this purpose and considering the logic of theoretical saturation, interviews were conducted with 30 people applying for marriage between the ages of 18 and 30. Findings: Data analysis led to the creation of a main class called "necessity of pre-marital education", which consists of 10 sub-classes including "communication", "religious beliefs and opinions", "commitment", "past and forgiveness", " The skills of conflict resolution/problem solving", "fairness", "financial resource management skills", "non-interference of main families/surroundings", "having a goal in life" and "leisure time" were formed. Achievement: The obtained results help many educational and treatment centers to develop necessary programs related to premarital education according to the identified factors. Teaching these factors to couples helps a lot to prevent and prevent life failures and increase the quality and satisfaction in the future married life.
