A B S T R A C T: Introduction: The present study aimed to predict competitive anxiety based on emotion regulation and perfectionism processes in taekwondo players. Methods: The research method was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population of this study consisted of all female Taekwondo fighters (Kyurugi) participating in the 1403 winter competitions of Tehran province, which numbered 120 people, and using the Cochran formula, 92 people were selected as samples by the available and voluntary sampling method. The competitive anxiety questionnaire of Besharat et al. (2009), the cognitive emotional self-regulation questionnaire of Garnfsgi and Kraj (2006), and the Short perfectionism questionnaire (1995) were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using the correlation coefficient and multivariate regression analysis in the simultaneous method. Results: : The results showed that there was a significant relationship between emotion regulation processes and negative perfectionism with competitive anxiety in taekwondo players (p<0.01). There was a significant negative relationship between positive emotion regulation processes and positive perfectionism with competitive anxiety in taekwondo players (p<0.01). There was a significant positive relationship between negative emotion regulation processes and negative perfectionism with competitive anxiety in taekwondo players (p<0.01). Regression analysis also indicated that emotion regulation processes and perfectionism have a role in predicting competitive anxiety and explained 46% of the variance in competitive anxiety. Conclusion: Overall, the research findings indicate that emotion regulation and perfectionism processes play an important and effective role in competitive anxiety, and taekwondo practitioners who benefited from positive emotions and positive perfectionism had less competitive anxiety and higher self-confidence. Therefore, in order to reduce and manage competitive anxiety, given that there is also a protocol for emotion regulation training and perfectionism treatment in this field, interventions should be used to employ more effective emotion regulation and positive perfectionism processes in taekwondo practitioners, especially in female taekwondo practitioners.
