The Power of Aural and Picture Vocabulary Size Test in Predicting Iranian EFL Learners’ Viewing Comprehension

چکیده مقاله :
The aim of this investigation has been to predict Viewing Comprehension through Aural and Picture Vocabulary Size among Iranian EFL Learners. To this end, 110 intermediate students were selected from two institutes of a city in Khorasan Razavi province, Iran. Pictorial vocabulary knowledge of learners was tested by Picture Vocabulary Size Test, Aural vocabulary knowledge was measured by Aural vocabulary size test and viewing comprehension was tested by a multiple-choice question test. All analyses were carried out using SPSS for Microsoft windows 22. Pearson product moment correlation analysis was run to analyze the relationship among viewing comprehension, picture vocabulary size and aural vocabulary. After the correlation analysis, we did step-wise multiple regression analysis to predict an outcome variable from two predictors. Interestingly, it was found that both picture and aural vocabulary size have a significant positive correlation with viewing comprehension. It was also proved that only aural vocabulary size can be considered as a significant predictor of EFL learners' viewing comprehension ability.
هدف اصلی این مطالعه پیش بینی میزان توانایی درک مطلب از طریق اندازه واژگان صوتی و تصویری در زبان آموزان ایرانی بود. برای انجام این مطالعه ,110 زبان آموز سطح متوسط از دو موسسه واقع در شهر درگز خراسان رضوی انتخاب شدند.چهار ابزار از جمله ,آزمون جایگذاری سریع آکسفورد QOPT)) , آزمون اندازه واژگان تصویر،آزمون واژگان شنیداری و تست درک مطلب در یک جلسه اجرا شد. دانش واژگان تصویری فراگیران با آزمون اندازه واژگان تصویری، دانش واژگان شنیداری با آزمون اندازه واژگان شنیداری و درک مطلب با آزمون چهارگزینه ای اندازه گیری شد. . داده های جمع آوری شده با استفاده از نرم افزار SPSS مورد تجزیه و تحلیل قرار گرفت. از روش آلفای کرونباخ و تحلیل همبستگی پیرسون برای تجزیه و تحلیل رابطه بین درک مطلب، اندازه واژگان تصویر و واژگان شنیداری بهره گرفته شد. پس از تجزیه و تحلیل همبستگی، ما به طور گام به گام تحلیل رگرسیون چندگانه را برای پیش بینی یک متغیر مستقل از دو متغیر پیش بینی کننده انجام دادیم. بطور جالب یافته ها حاکی از آن بود که هر دوی اندازه واژگان تصویری و صوتی همبستگی مثبت و معناداری با توانایی درک مطلب دیداری زبان اموزان داشتند. همچنین اثبات شد که فقط اندازه واژگان تصویری می تواند بعنوان پیش بینی کننده توانایی درک مطلب دیداری زبان آموزان در نظر گرفته شود.
