Inductively and deductively teaching methods are compared in this paper to study how they effect on English learning of third grade of junior high school students in two cities of Shiraz. The research method was of quasi-experimental type, using pre and post tests for two experimental groups. Amongst the junior high schools, in Shiraz, one boy school and one girl school were selected by randomizing. Then, in each school, two classes were selected randomly, too: one as an inductive experimental group and the next class as a deductive group. Measurement test was of the thirty -questions test about comprehension and grammar. Since this test was standardized, its validity and reliability had been confirmed the first by some teacher, professors, and head teachers in Shiraz educational organization and the second by Coronbach’s Alpha as %76. The experimental groups, then, have been taught both inductively and deductively. In the end, post-test was given to these four groups. By Using co-variance analysis and an independent group t-test, data, then, have been analyzed. The findings showed that experimental groups were significantly different in that, the scores of students, being inductively taught, were better than those of deductive one. Regardless of the last hypothesis saying that there is a significant relationship between boys and girls in comprehension, in deductive method, most hypothesis of this research have been verified. It is, therefore, concluded that inductive method is much more effective than the deductive one. Considering the coming hypothesis, it is to say that this very method has been more effective on the girls however, in the last hypothesis, this relationship is not significantly meaningful. What being resulted, therefore, is that, generally, inductive teaching method is so beneficial in English learning. Manuscript profile

The present research is carried out to study about the “intended curriculum” and “implemented curriculum” in junior high school based on UNESCO’s elements in education. These elements are of seven types as: Human Right and Democracy, Cooperation and Solidarity, Preservation of Cultures, Self and others, Internationalism, Protection of the Environment and Spirituality. The present study is one of descriptive and content analysis type. The data-collection tools in the first part include checklist. In second part teacher behavior observation checklist was used which was researcher-made checklist and its validity and reliability have been confirmed. The research sample, in the first part, includes all the contents of Social science, Persian literature, and Theology and History books in the three grades of junior high school. In the second part, based on stratified random sampling, 60 social science classes in Uremia schools were chosen for the study. For the content analysis, Shannon Entropy Method is used and descriptive and inferential statistics of T-test and variance analysis are used to analyze the implemented curriculum data. The results in content analysis part show that UNESCO peace education elements, in the above –mentioned books, are not, too much, taken into account. The most field of attention is on Cooperation and Solidarity elements which are most frequent in Social science books and least frequent in History books. The least attention, however, is paid to democracy and nature protection which in social and religious books, it is possible to keep track of them but we cannot say the same for literature. The Teacher behavior observation checklist results show that teachers function, lower than average in teaching-learning skills regarding teaching peace. They functioned only in Spirituality on average. Manuscript profile

The present study is an attempt to analyze the content of Prospect textbooks taught at the Iranian junior high schools according to the generative learning framework. Based on the four main processes of generative theory (motivation, learning, meaning making, generation), a checklist was developed. Four experts in TEFL and 21 English teachers were asked to analyze 9 selected lessons from the books. The content validity of the checklist was confirmed by the 4 experts and the intra- and inter-rater reliability indices showed a significant reliability level. Then, interval evaluation was used for the analysis of the obtained means. The results showed that the textbooks were evaluated as successful according to the generation criterion, moderate regarding meaning making criterion and weak in terms of learning and motivation criteria. Furthermore, the books were evaluated as weak regarding their generalizability power to non-learning contexts (which is an important aspect of communicative approaches) as well as motivation, developing thinking skills and raising awareness and attention criteria. Some suggestions are made for the improvement of generalizability of learning to out-of-class contexts, thinking skills and motivation in texts, exercises and tasks. Manuscript profile

Abstract The main objective of the present study was to investigate the impact of job stress on job satisfaction of public school principals of Islamshahr town in the academic year 2008- 2009. It was a descriptive (causative- comparative) study. The population consisted of the entire 196 male and female principals of public schools including primary, secondary and high schools of Islamshahr town. The sample included 123 people, selected by means of Morgan Jesse Table via stratified random sampling. To collect data two inventories were applied: Onderdoph inventory for the assessment of job stress and an author-made questionnaire for job satisfaction assessment. Content validities of inventories were confirmed by professors’ opinion and then their reliability was calculated 0.91 and 0.92 by Cronbach’s Alpha, respectively. To analyze data, descriptive statistics (mean, mode, median, standard deviation, diagram, and tables) and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation coefficient, one-way analysis of variance and two-sample t test so as to compare two-group means) and SPSS software were utilized. Results suggested that there was a negative significant relationship between job stress and job satisfaction. In terms of job stress, there also observed a significant difference between male and female principals and their job satisfaction. Further, the study found a significant difference between principals’ job stress in the whole levels of education and their management background. Manuscript profile
