Creative misprision is a theory proposed by Harold Bloom based on intertextuality and the relationships between literary texts and their influence on each other. The theory posits that there is always a conflict between poets and writers of the past and the succeeding ones. In his most important work, The Anxiety of Influence, Bloom emphasizes the two-way but hostile relationship between new writers and past ones. To get rid of the anxiety of influence of the past texts, poets and writers use methods through creative misprision to create new works in an attempt to show their own superiority to their predecessors. In the present research, we analyze the transformations that Jalāl al-Din Rūmi has applied in order to get rid of the anxiety of the influence of past texts , and to study the role of Bloom's creative misprision in Masnavi by using analytical-comparative method. The findings show that Rumi's creative method in the creation of stories and anecdotes to get rid of the influence of past texts is an instance of the creative misprision. For this purpose, he has employed a variety of techniques such as association, using educational, religious and philosophical themes, changing the elements of the stories, and symbolism.  Manuscript profile

In the present article, based on Masnavi Manavi and Divan Shams, “the phenomenon of night” will be looked at in four parts. In the first part, which is called “nights and its appurtenances” the relationship of night and day, the crack of dawn, sleeping, calamity occurring in the night, keeping nightly vigil are studied. Jalāl al-Din Rūmi believes Eternal beloved manifests himself in the night and at dawn and the calamities occurring in the night prevents the manifestation of the beloved. In the second part, “the features of night”, the following themes are considered: superiority of night over day, purity of night, and night as the place of manifestation of God. Rūmi believes, by contemplating and staying away from hypocrisy, man can understand the Divine Oneness at night. In the third part, we consider the mystical meanings of “night” from Rūmi’s point of view. And finally, in the fourth part, the Blessed Night (Shabe Qadr), night of Ascension (Shabe Meraj), as the special nights that the mystic can reach union with the Beloved, is considered.       Manuscript profile

4 - Inexplicability of Mystical Experience Regarding Rūmi's Thoughts about Form and Meaning

The mystics, implicitly or explicitly- through suing symbols and allegories- have referred to inexplicability of mystical experience. They believe that the importance and perfection of "meaning" is such that "form" cannot express it. According to them, meaning and form are contradictory; and this contradiction is rooted in their view concerning “secret”. The mystics believe that there is a "secret" about "meaning" which human language is unable to express, and at the same time, they want to hide it. The temptation of expressing, on one hand, and inability of language in expressing the 'meaning', on the other, leads to a deep contradiction that is a part of the heritage of mysticism. The relationship of form and meaning has been widely proposed by Jalāl al-Din Rūmi, and his meditations have led to delicate and exact lingual results. His emphasis on inexplicability of mystical experience, leads him to the kingdom of "silence ." Manuscript profile

Persona is a psychological term but in the works of Carl Gustav Jung, it is a distinguished concept. According to Jung, Persona has two meanings: first, it is a mask man wears to present an unreal picture of himself; secondly, it refers to unreal imaginations and thoughts that prevent the ego from growing. The identification with the persona leads to lack of development of personality. In Persian mystical literature, esp. Divan-e Shams, composed by Mowlana Jalāl al-Din Balkhi, there are some themes that overlap with Jungian concept of persona. In the present article, we have decided to study those symbols employed by Mowlana in his Divan that refer to the mask.  Manuscript profile

One of the most controversial sections of Masnavi Manavi is the opening verses of   Book II that about them different views of the interpretation have been suggested. In these verses, Jalāl al-Din Rūmi speaks implicitly of the causes of disruption in composing Masnavi Manavi. Also, the commentators of Masnavi Manavi have spoken about this very disruption and analyzed these verses. The present article attempts to propose new ideas about the causes of this disruption. To do this, we consider the prose prefaces of Masnavi and compare them with the final verses of the Book I, the first verses of Book II and Book III. The results indicates that on the one hand, the reason of the delay is due to the mood of the poet and on the hand it is due to the mood which the audiences were and the content of circumstances in general. As the present research is based on interpretation of the text, we believe that this article explains the cause of delay of composing the Book III and the period of inactivity better.
