The present paper, considering that one of the best ways to explain any problem is to compare it with homogeneous examples, based on the American school in comparative literature studies and descriptive-analytical method has explored the tortures in the great epics of "Shahnameh", "Iliad", and "Ramayana" to examine how the approach of world's three epic climates and answer the question What motives were used for torture essentially? The findings show that most of the torture took place in the absence of a coherent judicial system as a method of punishment, with the intention of revenge and with the motive of destroying the opposition. Some of the methods of torture in these three works were similar or close to each other; In some cases, however, torture was limited to a specific geography. "Shahnameh" has allocated the highest and "Ramayana" the lowest frequency of torture. The most horrible and cruel tortures, such as beheading, piercing the shoulder, tearing the abdomen, sewing on the raw, piercing the nose, skinning and burying alive, are reflected only in Ferdowsi's "Shahnameh". Comparative literature is a knowledge that adapts some works with some other literary works or compares the literature of two or more countries and usually a type of literature that has emerged in two different languages to reveal their commonalities and cultural differences. In this article, we will anatomize the places of love and autonomy, as two fundamental psychological and, at the same time, moral drivers of human existence, in the epic world. In the world of epic, we will argue that, compared to love, autonomy is at the core of the epic hero's existence. In other words, in the world of epic, the main axis of hero’s existence is the hero of the desire for autonomy, and love, although passionate and burning, is merely subject to it. In fact, in the epic world, love is merely an excuse to maintain the hero's autonomy, and it's no more valid. To this end, based on the views of Immanuel Kant in the philosophy of ethics, we will first give a brief definition of the principle of “autonomy” as opposed to the principle of “Hetronomy”. Then, by comparing the two main heroes of the two great epics of human history, namely Rostam in Ferdowsi's Shahnameh and Achilles in Homer's Iliad, we will explain how the axis in the epic world is autonomous and love is subordinate to it.
