Gerbera is attacked by a large number of pests, one of the most important of which is greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum Westwood). Currently, it is controlled by chemical and large amounts of money are used to import insecticides to control this pest annually. In current research, the effect of Palizin and Imidacloprid in T. vaporariorum control in commercial gerbera greenhouses was compared. The experiment was performed in a commercial greenhouse in Pakdasht, Tehran. The same size and none flower gerbera pots were selected for further analysis. Before and after the experiment, the number of nymphs and adults were estimated. Selected factors were included: the pesticide in two levels, pesticide dose in three levels (0.5, 1 and 1.5), application time in three levels (hours 8, 12 and 16) and replications in a month in three levels (2, 4 and 6). Data was analyzed using Design Expert 10 software with RSM (Response Surface Method) method. Based on the result, the mortality percentage of whitefly adults during the use of Confidor is significantly higher than Palizin. Also the only significant factor was the pesticide type, and other factors will not make any significant changes in the response. Manuscript profile

Gerbera one of 10 important cut flowers in the world and Iran. One of the most problems is low-life after harvest and neck bending. Producers want to increase longevity of these flowers with using chemical solutions. With the aim of achieving the best chemical treatments to increase flower vase life gerbera Goodtimming, nano silver (5 mg l-1), humic acid (50 mg l-1), gibberellic acid (2.5 mg l-1) and Lactobacillus plantarum 110 CFU m l-1 and Lactococcus lactis110 CFU ml-1 with sucrose (4%) compared with controls. This study in carried out with 6 replications. Cut flowers recutted to 35 ± 2 cm, and then tested in different solutions for 20 days. The results showed that silver nanoparticles (5 mg l-1) +sucrose 4%+gibberellic acid 2.5 mg l-1with the 19.5 days vase life compared with controls (17.67days) had the highest durability. Distilled water+ sucrose 4% with 5.98 mm stem diameter was better than control (5.49 mm) (P £0.01), while humic acid 50 mg l-1+ sucrose 4%+gibberellic acid 2.5 mg l-1 had lowest average daily stem diameter (5.44 mm), respectively. Highest water uptake observed in silver nanoparticles 5 mg l-1+sucrose 4%+gibberellic acid 2.5 mg l-1 treatment (8.78 ml g-1 F.W.). Silver nanoparticles 5 mg l-1+sucrose 4%+gibberellic acid 2.5 mg l-1 had highest fresh weight per day (24.89 g) and dry weight (4.96 g), respectively. Manuscript profile

Gerbera jamesoniiis of commercial significance and fifth most used cut flower in the world today. A pot experiment was performed to see the effect of co-inoculation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) i.e. (Glomus mosseae andAcaulospora laevis) with phosphate solubilizing bacteria Pseudomonas fluorescensin the presence of different doses of superphosphate (low, medium, high) on growth establishment and flowering response of Gerbera. Among all treatments, plants inoculated with mix culture of G. Mosseae +A. laevis+P. fluorescens showed best response in terms of greater root length, root biomass, percent root colonization, AM spore number, number of flowers, phosphorus content and phosphatase activity at lower concentration of superphosphate. Moreover, maximum increase in leaf area and shoot biomass was found in plants treated with dual combination of G. mosseae +P. fluorescens at lower concentration of superphosphate. This study provides a good scope for commercially utilizing the efficient strains of AM fungi withP. fluorescens in the establishment and growth improvement of Gerbera. Manuscript profile

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of preservative solutions on vase life, number of bacteria in the end of stem and in vase solution of cut gerbera 'Double Dutch' and 'Red Explotion'. Cut flowers were pulse-treated with nano-silver (2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 mg L-1) and thymol (12.5, 25, 50, 75 or 100 mg L-1) +5 % sucrose. Experiment was conducted in completely randomized design with 5 replications and 1 flower in each experimental unit. Flower were harvested from a commercial greenhouse and transported to laboratory with 22±1oC temperature and 60±5% relative humidity. According to the results, these materials had positive effects on vase life of flowers.6 mg L-1 nano-silver treatments in ‘Red Explotion’ cultivar had highest longevity (14 days). All treatments were effective on decreasing of bacteria in stem end and solution. In 4 and 6 mg L-1 SNP treatments was not any bacteria in vase solutions of ‘Red Explotion’ cultivar. Resulty showed that nano-silver can be use for increasing the vase life of cut gerbera ‘Double Dutch’ and ‘Red Explotion’. Manuscript profile

Ten gerbera cultivars (‘Labinel’, ‘Lilla’, ‘Alp’, ‘Alberino’, ‘Bonnie’, ‘Avemaria’, ‘Mammut’, ‘Lexus’, ‘‘Terramixa ’ & ‘Sarolta’) were evaluated for their growth, yield and quality characteristics under protected conditions during 2011. Among the cultivars studied, there were highly significant variations observed for growth, yield and quality parameters. Longest stalk length (60.3 cm) was exhibited by the cultivar ‘Alberino’ followed by ‘Lexus’ (59.0) and ‘Mammut’ (54.0 cm). The same cultivar also produced flowers with maximum diameter. With respect to vegetative parameters like number of leaves per plant and plant spread were also more in the same cultivar. Maximum number of flowers 135 per square meters was recorded in cv. ‘Avemaria’ (135) followed by ‘Alberino’ (125). Maximum vase life was recorded in cultivars ‘Alberino’ and ‘Lexus’ (6.6) followed by ‘Mammut’ (5.6) and ‘‘Sarolta’’ (5.6). Excellent quality flowers were observed in cultivar ‘Alberino’ (4.8) followed by ‘Lexus’ (4.4). Cultivar ‘Alberino’ and ‘Lexus’ were found superior with respect to growth, yield and vase-life characteristics under protected conditions. Manuscript profile

Effects of foliar application of potassium sources and their concentrations on the yield and quality of hydroponically  grown cut flower Gerbera jamesonii cv. Stanza was studied. The experiment was carried out at Pakdasht, Varamin, in 2008. Plants were either sprayed with three salts included KNO3, K2SiO3 and K2SO4 with a net potassium concentration of 0, 1.5 and 3 g/l respectively. The treatments were conducted as a complete randomized design with five replicates. The resultes indicated that all K treatments increased the yield significantly at 1% of probability level. The treatment KNO3 showed the highest yield. The quality of the gerberas was significantly improved in KNO3 and K2SiO3 treatments (3g/l) as compared with the control. An increase of potassium concentration in all cases, rised amount of leaf potassium content in plants. A significant increase of chlorophyll ratio was observed in all potassium treatments as compared with the control. In turn, cocentrations of Ca and Mg elements were reduced in all plants treated with potassium treatments. Level of potassium has been increased in foliage parts without any side effects on plant quality. By mean comparisons, it is concluded that the foliar application of potassium nitrare and potassium silicate (3g/l) disclosed high advatages on the growth and quality of cut flower gerbera.
