Mammary tumors are among the most prevalent tumors in female dogs which according to the pathological classification have several types. These tumors have many resemblances to human tumors and can be used as a suitable model for study of human mammary tumors. Although the antitumor effects of citrate against a variety of cancerous cells has been proven, the effect of this substance against canine mammary tumor cells has not yet been analyzed. The aim of present study was to evaluate the apoptotic and cytotoxic effects of citrate on canine mammary tumor cells(CF41-Mg) by Annexin-PI and MTT tests (a yellow tetrazole is reduced to purple formazan in living cells), respectively. MTT data showed dose dependant inhibition of citrate on proliferation of CF41-Mg cells and 50%inhibitory concentration (IC50) of this substance at a dose of26mM. In addition, percentage of apoptotic cells significantly increased after 48 hours’ treatment with IC50 of citrate (P<0/001). According to the obtained results, it seems that citrate can be used as a suitable adjuvant therapy alongside other cancer treatment substances. Manuscript profile

Introduction: Milk proteins are able to form gel under different situations such as heating, acidification, adding the enzymes and emulsifying salts. In this study, the effect of adding tetrasodium pyrophosphate (TSPP) and trisodium citrate (TSC) on physicochemical properties and rennet gelation time of unheated and heated skim milk was investigated. Materials and Methods: 2 to 10 mM TSPP and TSC were added to unheated and heated reconstituted skim milk. The pH, electro-conductivity (EC), and turbidity of samples were measured and upon the rennet treatment, the gelation time and water holding capacity (WHC) of treated samples were determined. Results: Based on our findings, addition of TSPP and TSC increased the pH and EC while it decreased the turbidity of the samples. Moreover, the presence of these salts extended the rennet gelation time of induced casein gels and gelation was only observed in the samples containing 2 and 4 mM TSC, and 4, 6, and 8 mM TSPP. The WHC of the samples was increased as well. Conclusion: TSPP and TSC resulted in dispersing the casein and forming a new gel networks, that can contribute to the improvement of some properties of milk products. Abstract: In biotechnology, separation, extraction, and purification of biomolecules using aqueous biphasic systems, as environmental and economic sustainable alternatives for conventional water-organic solvent extraction techniques, have always been the focus of great attention and examina-tion. One approach proposed by researchers is based on the use of ionic liquids (ILs) as adjuvants in ABS, making the capability of these systems for the extraction of biomolecules to be promoted. In this regard, this work is devoted to study the effect of IL 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium bromide ([C4C1im] Br) on the formation of ABS Composed of a polyethylene glycol (PEG) with molecular weight 600 and a biodegradable organic salt potassium citrate. For this purpose, the binodal curves and the liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data of the studied ABS, along with the partition coeffi-cients of [C4C1im]Br were determined at two temperatures of 278.15 K and 318.15 K. The results obtained indicate that the ability of [C4C1im]Br to promote the formation of the studied ABS de-creases with increasing temperature, so that at 318.15 K, the addition of IL makes the formation of two-phase system more difficult. In addition, [C4C1im]Br displays the partition coefficients greater than one for all the compositions and temperatures studied, which increases with increasing TLL at a given temperature. In the present study, Pt(20wt%)/C electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction in the cathode of fuel cells were synthesized with different amounts of trisodium citrate as stabilizing agent, to achieve higher efficiency of platinum electrocatalyst. The electrocatalysts containing platinum and trisodium citrate with ratios of 1:12, 1:9, 1:6, and 1:3 (Pt/C:TC) were prepared by using the saturation-reduction method. To evaluate the oxygen reduction reaction in the cathode catalyst layer in an acidic environment cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), rotating disk electrode (RDE), and finally electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques were applied. Also, morphology of the catalysts was studied with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the efficiency of the synthesized electrocatalysts at a ratio of 1:3 (Pt/C:TC) was better for oxygen reduction. It also had lower charge transfer resistance, more suitable distribution, and higher electrochemically active surface area (14.7 m2gPt). In addition, the number of electrons involved in the oxygen reduction reaction was calculated to follow the four-electron pathway for the electrocatalyst prepared at ratio of 1:3. Manuscript profile

Carnations are one of the most common cut flowers in many countries and have economic importance in the floriculture industry. Their vase life duration could be increased by some methods. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of some chemical solutions on cut carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus) after harvest using a factorial statistical design based on a completely random blocks (factor A: chemical treatments with eight levels including, control, sucrose, HQC350 & 500 mg L-1, salicylic acid 300 & 400 mg L-1, Calcium acetate 2 & 3 mmol L-1 and factor B: duration of treatment application with 4 levels including 7, 14, 21 and continuous hours) and with three replications and evaluation of vase life, fresh weight, water absorption and appearance quality of the flowers. The results of variance analysis showed that chemical treatments had a significant effect on the studied characteristics. The period for solution intake was also significant regarding the studied characteristics (except water absorption). The effect of interaction of the type of solution and time of solution intake was significant for all characteristics. The results of mean comparison showed that Calcium acetate 2ml had the highest effect on the shelf life of the flower and the 8-HQC500 had the most effect on the fresh weight of the flowers. Its apparent quality and finally the 8-HQC350 treatment had the most effect on the flower's water absorption. Salicylic acid also had a beneficial effect on increasing the quality of cut carnations. The pulsing treatment had the highest effect on most of the studied characteristics after a 7-hour solution intake. Generally, the role of Calcium acetate on improving the quality of cut carnations is due to its effect on postponing and deactivating some destructive and physiologic processes with the help of Calcium. Moreover, the HQC treatments, due to its anti-microbial effect, revents the accumulation of micro-organisms in xylem vascular tissues and therefore prevents their obstruction. Manuscript profile
