Abstract :
Ultrasound was used as an effective method for examining and diagnosing structural eye disorders in Lori-Bakhtiari sheep. Given the lack of comprehensive studies on the prevalence of eye diseases in this breed, this research investigated the importance of rapid diagnosis and treatment of eye problems to preserve the vision of sheep. In the present study, the significance of quick diagnosis and treatment of eye issues in Lori-Bakhtiari sheep for maintaining their eyesight was examined. Ultrasound was utilized to diagnose internal components of the eye, such as the lens, cornea, and vitreous body. In this study, 400 Lori-Bakhtiari sheep were divided into male and female groups and underwent ocular ultrasound. After describing eye diseases through ultrasound, unilateral cataract, bilateral cataract, hemorrhage in the posterior chamber, foreign body presence, and retinal detachment were identified, with respective percentages and P-values being 4%, 0.55569; 2.25%, 0.845665; 0.5%, 0.413046; 1.25%, 0.004262; and 0.7%. The measurements obtained from ocular ultrasound of Lori-Bakhtiari sheep indicated that there was no significant difference in the prevalence of eye diseases between males and females, except for the presence of a foreign body (P ≤ 0.05). Ultimately, this study emphasizes that prompt diagnosis and treatment of eye problems in sheep are crucial, and ultrasound can serve as an effective method for identifying eye diseases in this breed.
