Determination of Antibiotic Resistance of Brucella spp. Isolated from Brucellosis Patients in Kurdistan Province

Abstract :
Kurdistan Province is one of the endemic areas for Brucellosis. The rate of antibiotic therapy failure and reinfection of the brucellosis disease in this state is at a high level. Purpose of this study is isolation of Brucella from blood samples, and evaluation of antibiotic resistance for best cure of brucellosis patients in Kurdistan province. After collected blood samples of suspected patients with clinical symptoms samples were cultured in BACTEC medium. After growth of isolated bacteria, biochemical, and PCR test for detection of Brucella species was performed. Then Agar dilution and Disc diffusion methods for evaluation of antibiotic resistance of Brucella was performed. In all, 60 blood samples of patients were collected that of sample 18, Brucella bacteria was isolated. After performed of biochemical test and PCR, all isolated of bacteria was Brucella mellitensis. In this study 83.33% of isolated brucella was resistant to Rifampin, 11.1% resistant to Streptomycin and antibiotic resistance for Tetracycline, and Doxycycline not showed. This study showed that Brucellosis with Brucella Melitensis agent in Kurdistan Province was high and antibiotic resistance results showed that all brucella bacteria isolated of patients was sensitive to Tetracycline and Doxycycline and can be used for cure of brucellosis patients in this province.
