Abstract :
Walking is one of the best ways to increase physical activity. It is one of the most effective forms of exercise for the health of citizens. However, with the increased reliance on cars in communities, particularly in cities, and the subsequent decrease in physical activity, a significant number of urban residents suffer from diseases caused by sedentary lifestyles. This research utilizes a descriptive and library-based methodology. The statistical population includes the citizens of Nowshahr, which has a population of 49,405 according to the latest census statistics. The study focuses on a sample size of 286 individuals from the 1,123 residents of a specific neighborhood in Nowshahr. A t-test was employed to analyze the research data. The results of the study indicate that increasing the pedestrianization of a neighborhood has a positive impact on residents' health, specifically reducing obesity. Five sub-dimensions, including safety, security, furniture, access to services, transportation facilities, and attractiveness and green space indices, effectively contribute to reducing obesity among residents. However, the social activities index does not have a significant effect on health and obesity reduction. In conclusion, promoting walking as an integral part of people's daily lives requires attention to essential indicators and maintaining optimal sidewalk quality to ensure an active and healthy lifestyle for individuals.
