Improving second grade students' understanding of addition and subtraction of three-digit numbers using a technical method (an experiment based on lesson study)

Abstract :
Introduction: The research was conducted with the aim of improving the second grade students' understanding of how to add and subtract three-digit numbers using a technical method. research methodology: The study method in this research was a qualitative case study. The statistical community of second grade students was two classes of 25 and 23 of the Sama Girls' Primary School in the city of Birjand, in the academic year 2022-2023. The study used two categories of qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data acquisition tool was an interview with nine teachers from the research group who had educational experience in primary school. The coding method was used to analyze the data obtained. Quantitative data includes the results of the second grade math test before and after the research process. Findings: With the help of model methodology, we have analyzed the data and texts from the interviews conducted, the results of open coding, axial coding and selective coding are described, and in open coding we have achieved 32 phrases, axial coding we have achieved 12 phrases and selective coding we have achieved 6 phrases. The results of the students ' tests also showed that the teaching method influenced the learning of second-graders in addition and subtraction of three-digit numbers in a technical way.
