Abstract :
Introduction and purpose: In today's organizations, the correct management of information and knowledge is a vital matter. Organizational forgetting helps organizations keep their knowledge bank up-to-date and efficient by removing old or useless information and knowledge. The purpose of the current research is to identify the dimensions and components of organizational forgetfulness of the principals of the first secondary level in Shiraz city.
Research Methodology: The current research was conducted qualitatively using Atride Stirling's (2001) thematic analysis approach. The participants in the research were the principals of the first secondary schools in the four educational districts of Shiraz, who were selected using a purposeful criteria-based method, and a semi-structured interview was conducted with 22 of them using a theoretical saturation approach. Validation of the research data was obtained by using the auditing technique by judges (three experts in the field of education and management of the organization). The Holsti method was used to calculate the reliability.
Findings: In this research, using theme analysis, 69 basic themes, 13 organizing themes and 4 overarching themes were obtained, which were: open organizational atmosphere, foundation, substitution and delearning.
Conclusion: Organizational forgetting as one of the elements of transformation of organizations plays an essential role in creating organizational changes. Application of the four components of open organizational atmosphere, platforming, replacement and delearning in the organization, causes the removal of old or useless information and knowledge and helps managers to keep their knowledge bank up-to-date and efficient. This work prevents the scattering of information and confusion and helps to make better decisions.
