Comparative Study of the Evaluation Process of Primary School Students in Iranian Schools with Four Prominent Education Systems in the World

Abstract :
Evaluation is a foundational and indispensable pillar of educational systems worldwide, playing a critical role in measuring the efficiency and effectiveness of instructional activities. Through the provision of continuous and precise feedback, evaluation facilitates the sustained improvement of teaching quality and learning outcomes. This study adopts a qualitative and comparative approach based on Bereday’s four-stage model, encompassing description, interpretation, juxtaposition, and comparison, to analyze the student evaluation processes in primary education within Iran and four prominent global education systems: The United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Japan. Data collection was conducted through documentary methods, utilizing diverse sources such as books, scholarly articles, international reports, and governmental documents. The analysis was performed using cumulative content analysis. The findings revealed that Iran’s primary education evaluation system shares similarities with the four leading international models by relying on descriptive and analytical approaches. However, the implementation of these methods and the competencies of educators require critical revision and continuous enhancement. Furthermore, the study emphasize that no single evaluation method can be universally deemed as the most effective. To align educational outcomes with social demands and to nurture a productive generation, it is essential to strengthen teacher training with process-oriented approaches and to develop practical objectives aimed at improving students’ skills and attitudes. These strategies have the potential to transform the evaluation framework and elevate learning quality in primary education, thereby contributing significantly to achieving broader educational goals.
