Investigating the impact of emotional divorce on children's morale and family functioning (case of study: Bushehr City)

Abstract :
Considering the damage of emotional divorce and the role of this issue on children's mental health, as well as the importance and prevention of its problems for the children of these families. Aim of this study was the investigating the effect of emotional divorce on children's morale and family functioning. This study is descriptive-survey type with practical purpose. The statistical population included all the families living in Bushehr in 1402. According to Morgan's table and Cochran's formula, the sample size was 200 families living in Bushehr where emotional divorce was registered in counseling centers. The samples were randomly selected from all the families with a history of emotional divorce living in Bushehr, and McMaster's family performance questionnaire and children's morale questionnaire were distributed among them. The reliability of the questionnaire was measured using Cronbach's alpha coefficient and considering that the alpha value for all variables was greater than 0.7. SPSS-20 software was used for analysis. The results showed that emotional divorce has a significant effect on children's morale and family functioning. Also, emotional divorce has an effect on children's mood, emotional divorce on family functioning, family functioning on children's mood, and finally, the situation of emotional divorce among households in Bushehr city is higher than the average. The coefficient of determination 0.374 shows the amount of changes in children's mood due to emotional divorce. Also, the results showed that the standard coefficient of emotional divorce has an effect of -0.535 in predicting family performance. Considering the effects of emotional divorce and its destructive causes and consequences on children's mental health and their physical and mental conditions, it can be concluded that women and men should be careful and focused enough to choose the right spouse in the matter of family formation.
