Loneliness of people with borderline personality disorder: predict based on feelings of hostility, sensitivity to rejection, impulsive behaviors and mood states

Abstract :
The aim of the present study was to predict the loneliness of people with borderline personality disorder based on feelings of hostility, sensitivity to rejection, impulsive behaviors and mood states. The research was done by descriptive-correlation method. The statistical population of the research included all those who referred to Acceptance and Commitment psychological service center, by invitation, in the number of 357 people. From the aforementioned population, 82 people diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (about 23% of the volunteers) were screened according to DSM 5-TR through a targeted sampling method and according to the formula of Tabachnick & Fidell (2007). The research tools included Russell & Cutrona (1980) feelings of loneliness questionnaires, Williams (2000) feelings of hostility, Downey & Feldman (1996) sensitivity to rejection, Barratt et al (1997) impulsive behaviors scale and Terry et al (1999) mood scale. For data analysis, Pearson correlation and regression analysis were used. The results showed hostility (Beta = 0.166 and p = 0.046), rejection sensitivity (Beta = 0.178 and p = 0.034), depressed mood (Beta = 0.433 and p = 0.001). p = 0.259 and calm mood (Beta = 0.259 and p = 0.023) are the predictors of loneliness in people with borderline personality disorder. Also, happy mood was an inverse predictor of loneliness (Beta = -0.363 and p = 0.002). However, impulsive behaviors (Beta = 0.127 and p = 0.103) could not predict the loneliness of people with borderline personality disorder.
