The effect of parental behavioral styles and relationships with peers at school on students' feelings of loneliness

Abstract :
The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of parental behavioral styles and peer relationships at school on students' feelings of loneliness in the academic year 2024-2025. Causal-comparative method (post-event) and the research population is students of two deaf schools (Baghcheban and Pars Household Appliances) in Shiraz city in the academic year 2024-2025 in middle school. Using whole number sampling, the research sample is 35 students. The instruments used in this study are: Peer Selection Rating Scale, Parental Encouragement Inventory for Peer Relationships, Parental Acceptance, Neglect, and Rejection Questionnaire, Parental Strictness, Permissiveness Questionnaire, and Deaf Children's Loneliness Scale. Findings: The results show that: There is no significant difference between the loneliness scores of deaf boys and girls. There is a significant difference between the loneliness scores of children with encouraging and non-encouraging parents. There is a significant difference between the loneliness scores of deaf children with parents with different behavioral styles. There is a difference between the loneliness scores of children with different levels of peer acceptance at school. The interaction effect between different levels of peer acceptance and strict-permissive behavioral styles of parents is not significant.
