Abstract :
The Effectiveness of a Comprehensive Psychological Intervention on Post-Surgical Patient Outcomes This research aims to explore the impact of a comprehensive psychological intervention, integrating mindfulness training and coping skills, on patients recovering from major surgeries. Specifically, it investigates the intervention's ability to reduce anxiety, depression, and pain, while simultaneously improving overall functional outcomes in this population. Methodology The study employs a quasi-experimental design, featuring a pre-test-post-test structure with both an intervention group and a control group, and utilizing random assignment. The target population includes all patients undergoing major surgical procedures at Kowsar Hospital in Semnan during the study's timeframe. A total of 200 patients will be recruited through convenience sampling, with 100 individuals allocated to the intervention group and 100 to the control group. Subsequent random assignment will then place these patients into their respective groups. Data collection will occur at two distinct points: pre-intervention (pre-test) and post-intervention (post-test). The following standardized questionnaires will be used: * Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) to measure anxiety levels. * Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) to assess depression. * Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) or Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to quantify pain perception. * A Daily Functioning Questionnaire (e.g., GAF or SF-36/EQ-5D) to evaluate improvements in daily activities and quality of life. The intervention group will participate in eight 90-minute sessions focused on mindfulness training and developing effective coping strategies. In contrast, the control group will receive standard medical care without the added psychological intervention. All collected data will be analyzed using SPSS software. Both descriptive and inferential statistical methods, such as Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), will be employed to determine the intervention's effectiveness and the significance of any observed changes.
