Abstract :

The aim of the current study was to examine the impact of emotional intelligence training on the mental resilience of student athletes at Imam Ali University (AS). This research was applied in purpose and experimental in design, employing a pre-test-post-test approach with a control group. The study population consisted of athletic students at Imam Ali (AS) University. The sample size comprised 20 individuals for both the experimental and control groups, selected and assigned randomly. The experimental group received emotional intelligence training over ten sessions, while the control group did not receive any training. Data was collected using a 48-item questionnaire with six subscales: commitment, challenge, self-efficacy, interpersonal trust, emotional regulation, and social competence. The questionnaire used a five-point Likert scale, with a score of 5 for the highest option and 1 for the lowest. The questionnaire demonstrated a reliability of 0.85, and data analysis was conducted using multivariate analysis of covariance. The findings revealed that emotional intelligence training significantly enhanced all six aspects of mental resilience in student athletes at a significance level of P<0.01. The results were consistent in the quarterly follow-up assessments, suggesting that this intervention could effectively enhance the mental resilience of student athletes.
