The Effectiveness of Emotional Intelligence Group Training on Cognitive Emotion Regulation Strategies in Students as the Victims of Parents' Emotional Abuse

Abstract :
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of emotional intelligence group training (EIGT) on cognitive emotion regulation strategies (CERS) in students as the victims of parents' emotional abuse. Children of victim of emotional abuse have many problems in emotional regulation. This research did base on an experimental design. Fifty students screening from first grade of middle school in second region of Shiraz with emotional abuse problems and randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n=25) or a control group (n=25). The participations completed the emotional abuse and emotion cognition regulation questionnaire. Finally, data were analyzed by statistical methods of covariance analyses. The results indicated that in contrast with control group, experimental group demonstrated significant increase in emotional regulation strategies. Data didn't confirm the effectiveness of emotional intelligence training on negative emotional regulation strategies. The final result of this study was that emotional intelligence training affected on emotional regulation.
