The effect of discovery learning strategy on creativity and innovative thinking of high school students in Al-Qadisiyyah

Abstract :
Introduction: The aim of the present study was to investigate the impact of the exploratory learning strategy on the development of creativity and innovative thinking in chemistry (a case study of high school students in Al-Qadisiyyah, Iraq).
Research methodology: This research is applied in terms of its objective and is quasi-experimental in nature and method, utilizing a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of this study included all female high school students in Al-Qadisiyyah, Iraq. A total of 30 female students were selected through stratified simple random sampling and matched based on initial test scores, then randomly assigned to either the experimental group (15 students) or the control group (15 students). After ten training sessions in the exploratory learning method of these people through the distribution of the Torrance Creativity Questionnaire (1978) and the Li Zhuang Innovative Thinking Questionnaire (2004). The collected data were analyzed at two levels. At the descriptive statistics level, the mean and standard deviation were used, while at the inferential statistics level, covariance analysis was employed.
Findings: The results indicate that the exploratory learning strategy has a positive and significant effect on the development of creativity and innovative thinking in chemistry lessons.
Conclusion: The findings point to the importance of this strategy and active approach in learning, deeper understanding, and innovative thinking as one of the effective solutions for improving the quality and depth of learning in the educational environment.
